Kanye West Responds To Jay Pharoah's MTV VMA Spoof!

Posted Sep 1, 2014

Kanye WestKanye West has little sense of humor when it comes to both his art and his high-profile relationship with Kim Kardashian. At this year’s MTV VMAs, comedian Jay Pharoah portrayed the 37-year-old rapper in a short stint, ranting much like the rapper, about himself, his music and Kardashian. While Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner were shown getting a good laugh, Kanye felt the need to confront Pharoah himself.

While performing at the Made in America Festival in Philadelphia on Aug. 30, Us Weekly reported that Kanye told the crowd he confronted the comedian about his comments during the spoof.

West said that after the awards show, he called Pharoah. “I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position’ … So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that’s working hard, and helping the next man out.”

He went on to express his opinions of the spoof saying, “It’s fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision. It’s not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.”

West also said that his relationship with Kardashian is something to be respected, as interracial relationships used to be considered taboo, reported several web sites.

The Saturday Night Live comedian is best known for impersonating celebrities including West, Jay Z, Denzel Washington, and Chris Rock. Watch a highlight of his famous SNL stint, “Waking up with Kimye” below.
