The Martin Lawrence & Will Smith Film 'Bad Boys 3' Finally On It's Way!

Posted Dec 11, 2013

Over a year ago, we reported that Martin Lawrence and Will Smith had a conversation about filming Bad Boys 3, and at the time, the only thing stopping the project was whether or not Michael Bay would direct again as he did the first two films. There were other issues about scheduling and things of that sort, but all of the parties mentioned had agreed to work on the new project.

Then nothing, until two days ago

It seems that Sony Pictures has moved the ball along as they recently hired former New Line Cinemas head Michael De Luca on board (New Line Cinemas did the previous films and folded several years ago). Anyway, we heard that one of the projects that  De Luca wanted to kick start as soon as he walked in to his new job was rekindling the Bad Boy franchise, since he is now Production Co-President at Sony.

De Luca has had several conversations to bring back Smith and Lawrence along with David Guggenheim to script Bad Boys 3, (writer of Safe House, the Denzel Washington-Ryan Reynolds action thriller). Since making a splash with Safe House, Guggenheim has been working steadily on action thrillers that include a Safe House sequel, as well as Narco Sub, the McG-directed Puzzle Palace, and Weaponized, an adaptation of the novel Guggenheim wrote with Nicholas Mennuti. He also just completed a film for Sony Pictures, scripting the new draft of Uncharted/Drake’s Fortune

As of this writing, it seems that the film is about to get on the fast track.

Bad Boys II was released a decade ago, and the sequel grossed $273 million on a $160 million budget.

Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the pic.
