‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Starring Gail Bean & Isaiah John Officially Ordered To Series By FX

Posted Nov 3, 2025

FX is expanding the universe of its acclaimed crime drama Snowfall with a newly ordered spinoff series starring original cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who will reprise their roles as Wanda and Leon Simmons. The untitled series, set in 1990s Los Angeles, picks up shortly after the events of Snowfall, which concluded its six-season run in 2023.

Written and executive produced by Malcolm Spellman (Empire, Bel-Air, Hip Hop Uncovered), the spinoff centers on Wanda, a recovering addict, as she attempts to take West Coast rap mainstream amid rising gang violence and the exploitation of hip-hop culture by record labels. Leon, her partner, returns as a central figure navigating the chaos of post-crack-era L.A. The show promises to explore the intersection of music, survival, and ambition during one of the most transformative periods in urban culture.

Alongside Bean and John, the cast includes Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III, adding fresh energy to the gritty narrative. FX President Nick Grad praised the project, saying, “This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution”.

The production team reunites several Snowfall veterans, including Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson, ensuring continuity in tone and storytelling. FX Productions will produce the series, which is slated to premiere in 2026 on FX and stream on Hulu.

With its powerful leads, rich cultural backdrop, and a fresh narrative lens, the Snowfall spinoff is poised to be a compelling continuation of the legacy left by the original series. Fans can expect a raw, music-infused drama that captures the pulse of a pivotal moment in Black history and hip-hop culture.
