‘THE DEFIANT ONES’, 4-PART DOCUMENTARY TELLING THE TRUE STORY OF MUSIC LEGENDS DR. DRE & JIMMY IOVINE, DEBUTS JULY 9th ON HBO
THE DEFIANT ONES, a four-part documentary event, debuts SUNDAY, JULY 9 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO, with parts 2, 3 and 4 debuting on successive nights, JULY 10, 11 and 12, at the same time. Director Allen Hughes (“Menace II Society”) has made an unquestionably bold film about the unlikely but ultimately unbreakable bond of trust and friendship between Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, two street-smart men from different worlds who have shaped many of the most exciting and extreme moments in recent pop culture.
Allen Hughes filmed Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre with unfettered access over a three-year period in making THE DEFIANT ONES. In addition to extensive interviews with Dre and Iovine, who speak frankly about their highs and lows, the show includes interviews with such music icons as Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani, Bono, David Geffen, Eminem, Nas, Stevie Nicks, Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Jon Landau, Patti Smith, Lady Gaga, Doug Morris, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Diddy, Alonzo Williams and will.i.am. The series also features never-before-seen footage from a multitude of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, JJ Fad, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A., Tom Petty, The D.O.C., Bruce Springsteen and U2, among others.
Set amid many of the defining societal and cultural events of the past four decades, THE DEFIANT ONES tells the stories of two men – one black, one white – from different tough neighborhoods and their improbable partnership and surprising leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture. This revealing, compelling and often-gritty story takes place in recording studios, in humble homes, in criminal courts and in the highest corridors of corporate power.
Defiance is defined as “daring or bold resistance to authority or to any opposing force.” This unique and inspiring tale shows how decades of defiance and determination helped Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre build a few empires, make a series of American Dreams come true and transform two street kids into global forces to be reckoned with, here and now. The result is a master class in how to work your way up from the bottom to beyond your wildest dreams.

MTV
MTV is set to launch a new comedy game show called “SafeWord,” the network announced Monday.
From the producers of “Lip Sync Battle” and hosted by Terrence J, the series will feature celebrity guests such as Kevin Hart, Damien Dante Wayans, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Marlon Wayans, Kelly Rowland, Nelly, LaLa Anthony, Amber Rose, “13 Reasons Why” cast mates Ross Butler and Justin Prentice, Charlamagne Tha God, Drake Bell, Lil Rel Howery, Jermaine Fowler and more.
The series is based off the U.K. format that aired on itv2 and was originally developed and produced by STV Productions and Motion Content Group. In each episode, the celebrity guests will partner with superstar comedians, including Carly Aquilino, Sam Jay, Ricky Velez, Leonard Ouzts, Taylor Tomlinson, Akaash Singh, Matt Pavich, Sherry Cola to help them play a series of games in front a live audience. Throughout multiple rounds, the teams go head-to-head daring each other in a variety of challenges including social media games. In the spirit of a friendly comedy roast, the celebrities are tasked with taking the heat, but can always stop the pain by using their “safeword.”
“SafeWord” is executive produced Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin and Jerry Carita for Matador. James Sunderland serves as showrunner. Terrence Jenkins serves as host and executive producer. Candida Boyette-Clemons and Paul Ricci are Executive Producers for MTV. The series is directed by Michael Simon.
“SafeWord” will premiere on July 13 at 11:30 p.m. ET, immediately following a new episode of “Wild ‘N Out” and as part of MTV’s “Throwdown Thursdays” comedy block.
This is the latest in a string of unscripted shows MTV is launching as the network shifts its focus to attracting younger viewers. “The big theme is really for MTV to run back into youth culture — where we really made our mark,” network head Chris McCarthy said in February. “We are looking for talent to help us find the stories that will resonate in that culture.”
To that end, the network is investing in unscripted fare like revivals of “Fear Factor,” “My Super Sweet 16” and “Promposal,” among other shows. They are also significantly paring down their scripted offerings, with MTV recently announcing that the sophomore season of fantasy series “The Shannara Chronicles” will migrate to Spike. However, “Scream” Season 3 will still air on MTV, albeit with a new storyline and a new cast.

Watch: Leslie Jones’ Opening Monologue On The 2017 BET Awards!
(BET)
By Shari Weiss | 8:15 pm, June 25th, 2017
Leslie Jones opened the 2017 BET Awards on Sunday with a hilarious monologue. Check out the video below!
Following a performance by Bruno Mars to kick off the show, Jones started the ceremony by asking the crowd, “What’s up?!” She said she wanted the audience “relaxing your shoulders because this is going to be like a homecoming. I want joy in this house!” Noting her knee brace, she exclaimed, “That’s right. I don’t care!” She then went on to admit, however, that she was “scared.”
“I don’t know all the rappers names,” Jones confessed.” I don’t know if I’m going to mess up somebody’s names. When I was coming up you understood the rapper’s names. The names belonged to them. Old Dirty Bastard was an old dirty bastard… What’s a Lil Yachty? Is that a boat? It’s a small boat? Why don’t you want a big yachty? I don’t understand!”
Repeatedly stressing her age, the “SNL” star said, “I’m about to be 50 years old in September. That’s right! Black don’t crack, but you do have to use some lotion.” She went on, “I know I don’t look 50. I look like I’m in my 30s. That’s what I am in my head… My body be like, ‘You better sit your ass down. You 50, bitch!’” She insisted she’s having “more fun” than those younger, but amusingly took offense at finding a 21-year-old in the audience.
It was announced in May that Jones was host the BET Awards, the first time she’s emceed a major awards show. The extremely funny star, of course, is best known for “Saturday Night Live,” as well as her co-starring role in last year’s Ghostbusters. As the BET Awards host, she follows Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson (2016, 2015), Chris Rock (2014) and Chris Tucker (2013).
Earlier this month, Jones stopped by “Good Morning America” to discuss the gig. “It’s gonna be a ball… I’m about to show all of my booty,” the comedienne joked. She admitted more seriously, “I am very nervous. I want to make sure that I do a good job. I want to make sure that I represent comedy. I want to make sure that I make people laugh.”
Well, there was plenty of laughs as Jones got the festivities are underway. Watch the video below!

Jamie Foxx Confirms New U.S. Stand Up Tour Coming And Heading To The U.K.!
Jamie Foxx dropped by the KISS FM breakfast studio this week to speak to hosts Rickie, Melvin and Charlie about his new film Baby Driver.
While he was chatting to the trio, he revealed the details of one of his most legendary parties. Back when Drake has released his album Thank Me Later, Jamie threw him a party as he was new to the music scene. What Jamie wasn’t expecting, is that Drake would appear with over 2,000 girls in toe. He goes onto speak about interviewing Drake on the balcony of his home at the party, when Drake breaks out into song to the 2,500 strong crowd. Finally, the night was rounded off with a concert pianist playing Drake’s hits from the album.
Jamie is set to hit the road on his new stand up tour this year, he revealed the set includes stories from meeting some of the most influential icons of our time including; Kanye West, Barak Obama and John Legend. The tour has been confirmed to be coming to the UK.
Not only has he been working on his stand up, Jamie also has a new film in the pipeline. Having spent $5million of his own money on directing this ‘little film’ he is also putting the sound track together himself. He also revealed he has asked Baby driver co-star Ansel Elgort to feature on the sound track.
Finally, Jamie spoke about listening to Ansel Elgort’s music and being nervous that it wouldn’t be good. Luckily for Ansel though, Jamie loved the music and praised his voice and so didn’t have to deliver his killer line. When Jamie isn’t a fan of someone’s music, he simply says ‘do you want to get something to eat?’
Jamie on listening to bad music… “I have a thing when the music is not good, I say, let’s get something to eat. You want to get a bite? Do you want to get a bite? And when this [Ansel] dude played his music, I said, money. I’m like a proud father in a sense that I’m watching this kid do something that Hollywood hasn’t done in while.”
Jamie on his stand up… “Yeah, I’m doing it. I’ve got stand up, I’m coming to the UK. There is a section in my stand up about all the stories of me meeting Kanye, Barrack, and John Legend for the first time at the dinner table. There’s a section where the lights go down and we just tell all of these stories.”
Jamie on new music and new film… “We have music that we’re doing. I directed this little film, it cost me about five million dollars to direct and it’s a comedy. Since we ran all our money and our budget, we’re doing our own sound track. I’ve also asked Ansel if he could bless us with a track.”
Jamie on throwing a party for Drake… “I did a party for the Drake years ago, his first album and every time an artist does something dope I bring him to the house and we celebrate. Drake shows up, 2,500 people showed up. 2,000 girls.
I said those people wanna say hi to you, so I take him on the balcony and do an interview, I said you got to perform. He said, oh, man what I do. I said, just lean over the balcony. So, he leaned over the balcony and went, “I’m more than just an option …” [first line from his song Find Your Love.]
Four o’clock in the morning I had a concert pianist show up and play all of his music, unplugged.”
