Michael B. Jordan And Danai Gurira To Star In ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ Remake

Danai Gurira is reuniting with her Black Panther co-star Michael B. Jordan for the Jordan-fronted reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair.

Jordan is not only starring in the romantic heist thriller but directing as well as producing with his Outlier Society banner. The company’s Elizabeth Raposo is also producing, as is veteran producer Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment.

Production begins Monday in London, and the project just added Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh and Academy Award nominee Lily Gladstone to its call sheet. Taylor Russell is also in the cast.

The original Thomas Crown, made by United Artists in 1968, starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and involved a man who organizes bank robberies for sport but meets his match when he falls for (or maybe not) the insurance investigator hot on his tail. The 1999 remake starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

Sources say this time the action is taking place in Europe, while still keeping the art-thieving theme.

Jordan is playing the billionaire with the art-loving sticky fingers, while Russell is the suave private detective. Character details for Gladstone and Branagh are being kept under the umbrella.

Gurira will play Jordan’s confidante.

Amazon MGM has set a March 5, 2027, theatrical release for the romantic thriller.

Drew Pearce wrote the script for Thomas Crown after a previous draft written by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which was based on the original film.

Patrick McCormick and Toberoff Productions’ Marc Toberoff will also serve as producers. Alan Trustman, who wrote of the original 1968 film, is an executive producer.

Gurira may be best known for playing Wakandan general and master warrior Okoye in Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers movies. It was a role for which she won a People’s Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award and a shared SAG Award. She squared off against Jordan in the first Panther, in which the latter played a usurper to the Wakandan throne.

On the small screen, she gained a fan following for playing the katana-wielding zombie killer Michonne in AMC’s The Walking Dead and recently co-created, executive-produced, and starred in last year’s spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

The actress will next be seen in Apple TV+’s upcoming film Matchbox, based on Mattel’s iconic toy vehicle line, opposite John Cena.

Movie Review: James Gunn’s “Superman” Delivers Heart, Humanity, And A Hero Worth Believing In

After months of anticipation, “Superman,” the first film in the DC Universe, soars into theaters. Directed by James Gunn, who also wrote the screenplay, the film draws inspiration from the comic book “All-Star Superman” (2005–2008) by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. Gunn is no stranger to adapting comic book properties and uses this comic as a key template for the movie.

Gunn opens the film up, introducing us to an already established Superman who is in good standing with the world. His alter ego finds his voice as a reporter at the Daily Planet while secretly dating Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). However, as we all know, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) hates Superman for having the power to do everything but not aligning with Luthor’s own beliefs and wants to rid the world of what he sees as an alien menace.

Out of respect for the fans, I want to keep my review spoiler-free, so let’s start with some of the minor gripes. The film kicks off great with a treat for fans as we meet Krypto and are in for more surprises at the Fortress of Solitude. Superman takes a lot of L’s in the film, and I raised my eyebrow at where the film is going. However, within the first forty-five minutes, I was won over.

David Corenswet effectively embodies Superman from the start. The film skips a lengthy origin story, instead showing him already engaged in heroic acts while navigating the complexities of humanity. This focus on introspection, uncertainty, and emotional conflict enhances the film’s appeal. The audience feels Clark’s burdens, both physically and emotionally. Rather than portraying him as infallible, he is shown as a person with fears and insecurities who chooses to display compassion, even in an unworthy world.

Rachel Brosnahan gives a standout performance as Lois Lane, showcasing a mix of traditional qualities and modern confidence that feels fitting for 2025. Rather than just being a supporting character to Superman, she actively works alongside him in the quest for truth. The chemistry between the two characters is remarkable, adding depth to the overall narrative.

As for Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult offers a fresh interpretation of the character. His portrayal presents a tech-oriented antagonist—cold, shrewd, and disturbingly realistic. Rather than relying on kryptonite, he commands influence and projects a formidable ego. One particular scene involving Lex and his cronies is a carefully placed jab at Snyder fans.

If you’ve seen the trailer, then you already know that Isabela Merced has a bit part as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl and that Nathan Fillion, as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, also appears as a member of the Justice League. Both are great on screen, but it’s Edi Gathegi’s portrayal of Mr. Terrific that deserves commendation, as he subtly captures the audience’s attention with a performance that’s calculated, poised, and authoritative—a truly compelling presence.

Skyler Gisondo captures the right amount of charm as Jimmy Olsen, even though the character is somewhat underwritten. Wendell Pierce’s soulful bravado shines through as Perry White.

James Gunn skillfully balances visual spectacle with emotional depth. This film transcends the typical Superman narrative, marking the start of a significant and authentic cinematic journey..

Final Grade: A-

Limited tickets may still be available for tonight’s IMAX screening for Prime Members, so check your local theater. Otherwise, catch Superman in theaters this Thursday.

WATCH: Glen Powell In ‘The Running Man’ Trailer

It’s off to the races for Glen Powell, who stars in the first trailer for The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel.

The film takes place in the near-future, in which contestants must spend 30 days surviving being hunted by deadly assassins for a chance at an ever-growing cash prize, all while the proceedings are broadcast on TV. Powell stars as a father attempting to help his daughter.

“I have never worked harder on a movie in my life,” said Powell at CinemaCon in April, where he debuted the first footage from the film, which has a Nov. 7 release date from Paramount.

Wright wrote the script with Michael Bacall, basing the work off of King’s 1982 novel that has been praised for predicting the rise of reality TV culture, albeit taking it to the extreme.

The cast also includes William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson with Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. Simon Kinberg, Nira Park and Wright produce the film.

King’s book was previously adapted into the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of the same name, with Powell saying he’s received Schwarzenegger’s blessing for the new film, connecting with the action star through his son, Patrick Schwarzenegger. “Arnold gave us his full blessing and we get to give Arnold a very specific, fun gift from the movie,” Powell previously said.

Comedian Earthquake, Bill Burr Partner On New Show At Fox

Bill Burr is developing a half-hour comedy at Fox based on the life of comedian Earthquake (real name Nathaniel Stroman). It will be titled, wait for it, Earthquake.

Burr is producing the project through his North Hill Productions; 3 Arts Entertainment will also produce through Fox Entertainment Studios. Right now the commitment is just for a script; Burr, Dave Becky, manager Jermaine Smith and (Burr’s producing partner) Mike Bertolina are executive producers.

That’s about all we’ve got for now. Well, aside from the super-long bios provided by Fox.

Earthquake is a comedian, actor, voice artist and radio personality. In 2022, he had an episode of Chappelle’s Home Team, titled “Earthquake: Legendary,” on Netflix. Earthquake was a staple of shows like BET’s Comic View and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. His specials include About Got Damm TimeWalter Latham PresentsFrom the Outhouse to the Whitehouse and These Ain’t Jokes for Showtime.

You know Bill Burr. He’s one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time and entered dramatic acting via Breaking Bad. Burr’s own life story, basically, was told through his Netflix animated series F Is for Family. Burr has hosted SNL twice and just wrapped up a Broadway run of Glengarry Glen Ross.

And that’s all the bio you really need.

Oscar, Tony, and Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson and six-time NAACP Image Award winner Cedric “The Entertainer” will star in a Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone on Broadway next year.

Directed by Golden Globe and four-time Emmy winner Debbie Allen, the Wilson classic will open in spring 2026 at a Shubert theatre to be announced. Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.

Henson, who was Tony-nominated as a producer of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, will be making her Broadway performing debut. Cedric “The Entertainer” will be returning to Broadway after making his debut in 2008 in American Buffalo. They will portray wife and husband Bertha Holly and Seth Holly, respectively.

Set in 1911, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone takes place in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the steady Seth and the open-hearted Bertha Holly—a refuge for Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the Great Migration. Among them is Herald Loomis, a man searching for his lost wife—and for the self he lost during seven years of illegal enslavement under Joe Turner.

The second play in Wilson’s American Century Cycle, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is a meditation on memory, community, and the enduring hope of freedom reclaimed.

The original production of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone premiered on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in March 1988, running for 105 performances. Under the direction of Lloyd Richards, the cast included Delroy Lindo and future film star Angela Bassett. The production earned Tony nominations for Best Play, Best Director, Best Featured Actor, and took the Best Featured Actress Tony Award for L. Scott Caldwell.

A revival came to Broadway in 2009 playing just 31 previews and 69 performances at the Belasco Theatre. Despite the brief run, the play was an awards season darling, with Roger Robinson winning the Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play and Brian MacDevitt winning the Tony for Best Lighting Design of a Play. The revival earned an additional four nominations, for Best Revival of a Play, Best Direction, Best Scenic Design, and Best Sound Design.

In 2024, Denzel Washington announced that, as a custodian on Wilson’s legacy, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone would be the fourth Wilson play adapted for the screen in his deal with Netflix. Existing films include Fences (2016), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020), and The Piano Lesson (2024). No further film details on Joe Turner’s Come and Gone have been announced at this time. New Druski Movie In The Works With Kenya Barris Based On Comedian’s Short ‘The Diggers’

Druski is ready to unearth more comedy from a funeral home.

He and Kenya Barris are developing a feature as a starring vehicle for the viral comedian that will be based on his recent short The DiggersThe Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Druski’s imprint 4lifers Entertainment and Barris’ production company Khalabo Ink Society are behind the project.

The movie is inspired by Druski’s latest short The Diggers, which debuted on social media last week and includes appearances from Shane Gillis, Theo Von, Navv Greene and BenDaDonnn. Described as an old-school buddy comedy, the feature will focus on Druski as Brandon Digger, who inherits his late father’s funeral home but soon learns that it’s not as easy to run as it seems.

At this stage, it’s unclear if Gillis or Von will reprise their roles.

Producers include Druski for 4lifers Entertainment and Barris, Jeremy Allen and Adam Kassan for Khalabo Ink Society.

The Diggers reunites Druski with Barris, with the performer having recurred on the comedy series Grown-ish, which Barris created with Larry Wilmore.

THR reported late last year that Druski had filmed the unofficial trailer with Von and Gillis and was shopping the project. Druski is known for his viral comedy videos and for headlining sold-out tours. He recently launched the reality competition digital series Coulda Been House and Coulda Been Love.

“There’s just something about him, a star quality, that thing you can’t describe,” Barris told THR about Druski in 2024. “Executives, casting directors and writers have done a really bad job of bringing up the next crop of stars. Druski can be that for this group because he is the guy who believes in the craft.”
