Wanda Sykes Sets Third Netflix Special Titled ‘Legacy’

Posted Mar 30, 2026

Netflix has officially announced Legacy as Wanda Sykes’ next stand‑up special, marking her third hour for the streamer and continuing her long partnership with the platform. The special debuts May 19th, adding to a body of work that includes I’m an Entertainer (2023) and Not Normal (2019).

Legacy was filmed at Hampton University, the Virginia HBCU where Sykes earned her marketing degree. Directed by Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust), the special brings Sykes back to the campus that helped shape her early life—making the project a full‑circle moment for the Emmy‑winning comedian.

According to Netflix, the hour showcases Sykes’ trademark blend of bold, smart, and laugh‑out‑loud comedy, cementing her status as a comedy icon. The special is produced by Sykes and Page Hurwitz under their Push It Productions banner, which has backed numerous stand‑up specials and the Netflix sitcom The Upshaws, co‑created by Sykes.

Sykes remains one of the most recognizable names in comedy, with a résumé spanning stand‑up, sitcoms, film, and award‑winning writing. Before her Netflix era, she released specials on HBO, Comedy Central, and MGM+. She has also starred in series such as The Other Two, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Black‑ish, and won an Emmy for her writing on The Chris Rock Show.
