Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Eddie Murphy Documentary Titled ‘Being Eddie’

Posted Oct 14, 2025

Netflix is pulling back the curtain on one of Hollywood’s most iconic entertainers with the upcoming documentary Being Eddie, set to premiere on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Directed by two-time Oscar winner Angus Wall, the film offers an unprecedented look into the life, career, and legacy of Eddie Murphy—comedian, actor, and cultural trailblazer.

Being Eddie chronicles Murphy’s nearly 50-year journey in entertainment, from his teenage stand-up gigs and breakout role on Saturday Night Live to blockbuster hits like Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor, and Shrek. The documentary promises candid interviews, rare archival footage, and intimate moments filmed inside Murphy’s home, revealing the man behind the characters.

Wall, who began working on the project in 2019, describes Murphy as “an artist with an incredibly flexible mind and spirit,” adding that his openness during filming was “refreshing and kind of surprising”.

The film’s official synopsis highlights Murphy’s singular path: “No other teen comedian shared a stage with Jerry Seinfeld at 17, joined SNL right out of high school, and played a cop, a doctor, and a donkey—dominating every facet of Hollywood he’s touched”.

Being Eddie also features interviews with Murphy’s famous friends and collaborators, offering insight into his influence on comedy, film, and pop culture.

With Being Eddie, Netflix celebrates a legend whose charisma, ambition, and talent have shaped generations. As the premiere approaches, fans can prepare for a documentary that’s as bold, brilliant, and unforgettable as Eddie Murphy himself.
