Keke Palmer & Nick Cannon Land In New TV Film For Nickelodeon!

Posted Jun 6, 2011

We just discovered that actress Keke Palmer and actor Nick Cannon are collaborating on a new project for Nickelodeon! Word is that the two are planning on filming a new TV movie titled Rags, which we hear is a rags-to-riches kind of musical fairy tale.

Here is the story as reported by Deadline;

Nickelodeon has put in to production Rags, a TV movie starring its star Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP). Max Schneider will star opposite Palmer in the music-infused modern-day fairy tale, which has began production in Vancouver. This marks a major break for newcomer Schneider, who also has been tapped by Nickelodeon to star opposite Cymphonique Miller in the upcoming live-action comedy series How to Rock. Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop) will direct Rags, with original music produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who has worked with Lady Gaga and Beyoncé and served as a music producer and mentor on season 10 of American Idol. Rosero McCoy (America’s Best Dance Crew) will serve as the movie’s choreographer. Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President, Development and Original Programming, said the project was brought to the network by long-time Nick collaborator Nick Cannon, who serves as chairman of Teen Nick. “This concept was inspired by his own reverence for The Wiz, one of his favorite movies growing up,” Cohn said. “Rags gives a contemporary spin to a classic story, and is told through a relatable filter that speaks to our audience.” Cannon, who is executive producing the movie, called it “a classic fairy tale with a hip-hop flare.” Rags, a modern-day reverse-gender Cinderella, centers on Charlie Prince (Schneider), an orphan living with his acerbic and unloving stepfather and spoiled, simple-minded stepbrothers. Charlie’s dream is to be a singer, and while he is vocally talented and can write music, he can’t seem to catch a break. Kadee Worth (Palmer) is the daughter of music mogul Reginald Worth and is an international pop star who is frustrated by having to sing other people’s songs. Despite every obstacle that gets thrown in their way, once Charlie and Kadee find one another, they each finally get what they have been looking for. Palmer, who will also serve as a producer on Rags, recently wrapped Joyful Noise starring opposite Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton and is also a recording artist for Interscope. Rags was written by Jason Fuchs.
