LOS ANGELES — If you hear the words, “Watch Out Deh Now,” then you know that it’s more than a heed to action, but rather the trademark catcall for funnyman J. Anthony Brown. A staple on the nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS) for more than a decade now, he is one of the voices that wake up millions of radio listeners in more than 195 markets. And now he’s a regular on TV One’s new hit sitcom, “The Rickey Smiley Show,” which premiered last week, giving the network its biggest debut in its history. Although Brown may be cracking jokes on tv and the radio, when it comes to breast cancer, it’s no laughing matter.
When he’s not on tv or the radio, Brown owns and operates the J Spot Comedy Club in Los Angeles, providing an incubator for up-and-coming comics as well as seasoned ones, who need to workshop new material. In observance of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Brown’s comedy club will present two special events to bring awareness and raise money for breast cancer.

Hosted by Spencer Allen, the J. Spot Comedy Club presents “Mic Check” with an all-male line up of poets, performing for a great cause – that is, breast cancer awareness. Special guest and gifted spoken word artist Rudy Francisco from TV One’s hit tv show, “Verses and Flow” will headline the event. The San Diego native combines activism and poetry to enlighten the minds of those who witness his performance. And when it comes to “spitting,” he’s the 2009 National Underground Poetry Slam Champion, the 2010 San Diego Grand Slam Champion, and the 2010 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion. Tickets are $5.

Hosted by Clayton Thomas, the J. Spot Comedy Club will partner with fellow comedy club owner and one-year breast cancer survivor Mishelle Leftridge, CEO of Left Right Entertainment to raise money for the Save The Ta Tas® Foundation. Founded in 2008 by Julia Fikse, the private, not-for-profit 501(3) organization is dedicated to battling cancer at every stage through awareness and humor.
