“Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson and his mother, Doris Bowman, are once again teaming up to host another game show together. The son-and-mother duo have been announced as the new hosts of Fox’s upcoming music gamer “We Are Family,” which premieres Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Anderson and Bowman replace Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne Foxx, who had previously been announced for “We Are Family.” Jamie Foxx continues as an executive producer on “We Are Family,” as he presumably recovers from a medical condition that he was hospitalized for earlier this year. Jamie Foxx also hosts another music game show, “Beat Shazam,” for Fox (with Corinne Foxx as the show’s DJ), but Nick Cannon filled in as host, and Kelly Osbourne guested as DJ, for episodes that aired this summer.
Anderson and Bowman — also known as “Mama Doris” — have worked together on several projects, including the gamer “To Tell the Truth,” as well as “Trippin’ with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris.” According to Fox, the new show “will showcase non-famous relatives of celebrities performing amazing solo performances and duets with their hidden famous family member.”
The show, from Jeff Apploff’s Apploff Entertainment and Fox Alternative Entertainment, follows a studio audience of 100 contestants who are competing for up to $150,000 by guessing which celebrity the performer is related to. Celebrities appearing on “We Are Family” include musicians and pro athletes, Fox said.
“We’re so excited to have Anthony and Doris headline We Are Family,” said Fox unscripted programming prexy Allison Wallach. “They embody everything that’s special about this show –a ton of laughs, a lot of heart and some friendly on edge-of-your-seat competition that the whole family can enjoy.”
“We Are Family” is co-produced by Apploff Entertainment and Fox Alternative Entertainment, which created the program. Jeff Apploff, Joni Day and Jamie Foxx are executive producers, while “We Are Family” showrunner Matilda Zoltowski is also executive producer of the series.
“I jumped at the opportunity to host ‘We Are Family’ and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives and the many surprises we have in store this season – and with my mama by my side, you never know what’s going to happen,” said Anderson in a statement.

Kel Mitchell announced Thursday that he is home and recovering after he was hospitalized this week after a health scare.
“Grateful for the flood of prayers and positive vibes that surrounded me during a genuinely frightening time,” the “Good Burger” actor wrote in a statement posted on his Instagram account late Wednesday evening. The post did not disclose what prompted his hospital visit.
“The scare was real, but so was the support,” he continued. “With the grace of God and the skill of the medical team, I’m on the road to recovery at home, embraced by the love of my family. Your kindness has been a lifeline, and I can’t thank you enough. Much love to each of you.”
Representatives for Mitchell did not immediately respond to The Times’ requests for comment.
TMZ was first to report Mitchell’s hospitalization Wednesday afternoon, citing a witness who said they saw Mitchell entering a Los Angeles hospital’s emergency room and described the actor as conscious and alert.
Other stars celebrated Mitchell’s return home, with fellow “All That” alum Kenan Thompson, as well as gospel singer and actress Yolanda Adams, leaving prayer emojis in the comment section of Mitchell’s recent post. Damon Wayans wrote, “Glad you’re feeling better my brother,” and Yvette Nicole Brown, said, “Glad you’re on the mend, friend!”
Mitchell is known for the ‘90s Nickelodeon show “All That” and its movie spinoff, “Good Burger.” He has openly talked about his struggle with alcohol and drug use, while experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts prompted in part by the end of his long-running show, financial struggles, and the end of his marriage with Tyisha Hampton.
“I felt like I hit a wall,” he recalled in a 2015 interview with People. “I was like ‘Okay, I need to figure out what to do in my life.’”
The actor will make his return to the big screen this month for the long-awaited release of “Good Burger 2.”
Rumors about a “Good Burger” sequel have swirled for years.
Keeping the idea alive among its fan base — mostly children of the 1990s — Thompson and Mitchell reunited during a 2015 “Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” episode and parodied their iconic characters of Ed and Dexter Reed. Then, in 2019, Mitchell went on to reprise his role in the Paramount+ “All That” reboot.
In recent months, as the duo began to appear together onscreen more often, talk of a sequel began to ramp up.
First came the 2022 Emmys moment where Thompson, who hosted the show, performed a surprise bit that had Mitchell asking, “You know what, can I get a Good Burger?” Thompson ended the bit exclaiming, “Sequel comin’ at ya!” Then, in a December 2022 episode of “SNL,” Thompson and Keke Palmer performed another “Good Burger” parody with Mitchell making a surprise appearance. The duo officially confirmed the sequel was on its way in March while guests on “Fallon.”
Last week, Paramount released the movie’s first trailer, which revealed a wide range of cameos, including Rob Gronkowski to Carmen Electra and Lil Rel Howery. Mitchell had shared a promotional clip of the film on his Instagram stories Wednesday morning, hours before SAG-AFTRA and the alliance representing the major Hollywood studios reached a tentative deal to end the historic, 118-day actors’ strike.
“Good Burger 2” is set to begin streaming on Paramount+ on Nov. 22.

Despite the impending changes that college will bring over the next four years, the two are committed to honoring their prom pact. DeWanda Wise is toplining Lionsgate and Blumhouse‘s original horror movie Imaginary which is set for theatrical release on March 8, 2024.
The Jurassic World Dominion star will also executive produce the Jeff Wadlow-directed and co-written pic which begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?
In the movie, Jessica (Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family. Her youngest stepdaughter Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.
Wadlow co-wrote with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. Wadlow produces with Jason Blum. EPs are Wise and Ryan Turek.
Last week the studio debuted its innovative “imaginary” trailer, designed to be experienced exclusively in theaters with eyes closed. Audiences for Five Nights at Freddy’s were the first to jump out of their seats while watching it.
Wadlow says, “DeWanda has been more than a star in this movie – she has been a full creative partner. So much of horror grows out of our most basic fears from childhood, and DeWanda taps into all of that. You know that old saying that the audience’s imagination is scarier than any movie? We’re going to put that to the test.”
Wise is starring in the Starz series adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s Three Women, opposite Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin as well as the feature Poolman, the directorial debut of Chris Pine, which made its world premiere at TIFF. It was also recently announced that she will star in the supernatural thriller Killing Faith. Wise also starred in the Netflix Western movie The Harder They Fall directed by Jeymes Samuel.
She is represented by CAA, M88, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the trailer of Eddie Murphy’s upcoming festive offering Candy Cane Lane. The veteran comedian has joined hands with Trace Ellis Ross as they play couple Chris and Carol Carver in the Amazon Prime holiday adventure film. Eddie Murphy’s Chris, who is hell-bent on winning the annual Christmas decor contest in his neighborhood, unknowingly makes a deal with a mischievous elf Pepper, played by Jillian Bell. To make him win, the elf casts a magic spell that brings havoc into the life of Carver and the whole town just 12 days before Christmas.
Chris and his family of three children quickly pace against time to undo the magic spell to make Christmas happy for everyone. While the fantasy twist brings volume to the film plot, the magical events are aptly captured in the first glimpse of Candy Cane Lane. The trailer begins with Eddie Murphy addressing his family with childlike excitement about the decor contest. What quickly follows suit is the appearance of several figurines adding a zest of unrealistic to the festive tale. A channel covers the news of “High stakes as neighbors compete for the best-decorated house on the block.” Then enters the devilish elf Pepper who asks Eddie Murphy’s Chris about his Christmas wish. “I just want to win this thing,” he says before buying a massive decor and signing a deal with her.
“Merry Christmas,” says the elf suspiciously and things begin to go south the next morning. The havoc begins with a devilish phone call, followed by his wife getting attacked by a fleet of birds. If that wasn’t enough, the Carvers then have to deal with talking figurines while also estimating what’s real and what isn’t. It is the figurines that highlight the elf’s “sick trap” to Eddie. When the comedian denies he didn’t sign up for the chaos, a figurine intervenes reminding him of the contract, “Yo gotta read the fine print, man. The terms of service are brutal.”
From pigeon and hen attacks to Kung-fu style combat, the Christmas chaos continues to persist that’s when the Carver family bands together to march against Pepper’s plan. “We are the Carvers. We gotta catch an elf. You messed with the wrong family,” the characters pack on the retaliation. What also steals the limelight are the hilarious punchlines of Eddie Murphy.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the Amazon Prime film also features Robin Thede, Nick Offerman, and Chris Redd.
The Christmas comedy flick will begin streaming on December 1.
The Longest Yard is getting another set of downs.
Deadline hears that another remake of the film, which originally starred Burt Reynolds in 1974 and was remade starring Adam Sandler in 2005, is in the works at Paramount Pictures. Rodney Barnes, who was an exec producer and writer on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is writing.
It comes from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler was an exec producer on the 2005 version when he worked at then-MTV owner Viacom. Toffler is producing with former MTV Films boss David Gale, who reunited with Toffler at Gunpowder & Sky and who also exec produced the Sandler version.
The Longest Yard is a prison sports comedy film.

The 1974 original was based on a story by Al Ruddy, directed by Robert Aldrich and written by Tracy Keenan Wynn. It starred Reynolds as Paul “Wrecking” Crewe, a former star quarterback who is sentenced to 18 months in Citrus State Prison, where he puts together the Mean Machine team to play the guards’ team.
It was remade in 2005 by director Peter Segal and written Sheldon Turner. It starred Sandler as the washed-up quarterback, who puts together a team in prison in exchange for a reduced sentence. Chris Rock, James Cromwell, Nelly, and William Fichtner also starred, as did Reynolds.
Both versions were released by Paramount.

In addition to Winning Time, Barnes has written and produced series such as The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris, Marvel’s Runaways, American Gods, and Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
Barnes has a number of projects in different stages of development, including writing an adaptation of Chris Leslie-Hynan’s novel Ride Around Shining, which is in development with Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby for Netflix with LaKeith Stanfield attached to star; writing a miniseries based on the life of golf star Tiger Woods; and writing a feature for New Regency with Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to direct.
Gunpowder & Sky is behind films including Elisabeth Moss’ Her Smell, Nick Offerman-starring Heart Beats Loud and Showtime’s Courtney B. Vance-led Heist 88 as well as music documentaries including Sheryl and Everybody’s Everything. Last year, it struck a multi-picture deal with MTV Entertainment Studios following its Comedy Central’s Hot Mess Holiday movie, starring Kal Penn.

Jason Momoa will host the Nov. 18 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” with Tate McRae announced as the musical guest.
Momoa, hosting for his second time, and McRae, making her “SNL” debut, will follow the Nov. 11 pairing of Gen Z darlings Timothée Chalamet and Boygenius. Chalamet had hosted once before in 2020, when he waxed poetic about his hometown of New York City and rapped alongside Pete Davidson.
Prior to Chalamet and Boygenius, Nate Bargatze hosted the third episode of Season 49 with musical guest Foo Fighters. Bargatze’s episode followed the news of Matthew Perry’s death, and “SNL” honored the late actor with a moment of silence.
One of Bargatze’s sketches included a retelling of the founding fathers making plans for the future of the United States, mocking the country’s seemingly nonsensical ideas like the rejection of the metric system and the use of hands in football. “And the slaves, sir, what of them?” Kenan Thompson asks him.
The newest season of the long-running series began with “SNL” alum Pete Davidson returning to 30 Rock with Ice Spice as musical guest; in a self-mocking parody of “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie,” Davidson made himself the butt of the joke with “I’m Just Pete.” To the surprise of audience members and even those working on “SNL,” Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made a guest appearance during the premiere.
Following suit, Pedro Pascal made a surprise appearance in the second episode, joining host and performer Bad Bunny during his monologue and acting alongside him in a sketch in which they played a mother and aunt, respectively. Lady Gaga and Mick Jagger also had cameos in Bad Bunny’s episode.

“Plus, it’s about saving lives,” Mbatha-Raw adds, referring to how they will be keeping the money out of the hands of international terrorists.
The comment prompts the criminals to grouse about being the victims of emotional blackmail.
The cast also includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, Sam Worthington, Viveik Kalra, Yun Jee Kim, Burn Gorman and Paul Anderson.
