NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Spin classes, potato-sack races, and brain games were the order of the day at today’s Rally® HealthFest hosted by actor and comedian Kevin Hart and digital health company Rally Health℠. More than 12,000 New Yorkers came out to celebrate healthy living at the free festival in Nelson A. Rockefeller Park in lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City.
People of all ages were joined by Hart as they participated in fun, family-friendly activities ranging from group exercise classes led by Kevin’s personal trainer, Ron “Boss” Everline, to races on Hippity Hop balls in the Kids Zone. On hand to help host the event and offer people encouragement to move more and eat healthier was New York’s own Robin Arzon, author of Shut Up and Run: How to Get Up, Lace Up, and Sweat. Rally’s partner leading the fitness activities was NYC nonprofit Asphalt Green.
“I loved engaging with the people at today’s Rally HealthFest and showing them that they don’t have to go to extreme measures to improve their health and fitness. Everything we did today was fun and easy to do, and just about everything we did had a health or fitness benefit. I hope that people left feeling inspired and motivated to take the first or the next step in a healthy direction,” said Hart.
The event today was Rally Health’s second HealthFest in New York City and fifth event overall across the United States. In 2015, the company named Hart its first Health Ambassador and has since collaborated to host Rally HealthFests and produce health-focused videos starring Hart. Russell Simmons returns to HBO later this year for the all-new stand-up series ALL DEF COMEDY, kicking off its six-show season in December. The show continues the longstanding relationship between the network and Simmons, who launched the careers of a host of today’s comedy superstars in the ‘90s with the original HBO series “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam.”
The show will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.
To be taped before a live audience Oct. 10 and 11 at the Avalon Theatre in Los Angeles, the series will be hosted by Tony Rock (“All of Us,” “The Tony Rock Project,” “Apollo Live”), and feature stand-up performances in a variety of styles, spotlighting up-and-coming comics discovered at All Def Digital’s live weekly comedy showcase and special, and its online video platform to discover the best emerging comics, as well as “Def Comedy” veterans.
“I have witnessed firsthand how the most cutting-edge, seemingly alternative comics become the driving forces in mainstream comedy,” says Simmons. “I’m thankful to HBO for allowing me to give these new voices access to mainstream audiences everywhere.”
Known for highlighting African-American comedians and launching the careers of such comedy legends as Bernie Mac, Dave Chappelle, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Steve Harvey, Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, Katt Williams, J.B. Smoove, Bill Bellamy and many more, “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam” aired on HBO from 1992 to 1997 and returned in 2006, followed last year by the special “All Def Comedy.”
ALL DEF COMEDY will be executive produced by Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan, along with Chris Conti and Jeru Tillman; directed by Stan Lathan.
ABC is developing a comedy series about a former Bollywood star executive produced by Priyanka Chopra, Variety has learned exclusively.
The currently untitled single-camera series would follow a former Bollywood star who settles down in the suburbs of America with her bi-cultural family and tries to bring her colorful lifestyle to an otherwise dull town. The series is based on the real life of Madhuri Dixit, who will also executive produce.
Sri Rao, a Bollywood writer and a writer for shows like “General Hospital: Night Shift,” will pen the pilot and executive produce, as will Dixit’s husband, Sriram Nene. Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper will executive produce through the Mark Gordon Company, which currently produces “Ray Donovan,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Quantico,” among many other shows. ABC Studios will produce.
Chopra, herself a Bollywood star, currently stars on “Quantico,” which is going into its third season. She is repped by WME and Trinity Ventures. Rao is repped by Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo.
This fall, ABC is set to debut the medical drama “The Good Doctor” starring Freddie Highmore, Marvel series “Inhumans” with Anson Mount and Iwan Rheon, the Kyra Segdwick-led drama “Ten Days in the Valley,” comedy series “The Mayor” from executive producer and “Hamitlon” breakout Daveed Diggs, and “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World,” formerly “The Gospel of Kevin.”
ABC’s other new series orders — “Alex Inc.,” “The Crossing,” “Deception,” “For the People,” and “Splitting Up Together” — will debut at midseason.

As previously reported, The Urban Movie Channel announced it’s first original series pick-up for the summer, and it’s from daytime television veteran, Victoria Rowell, as she is the creator of The Rich and the Ruthless, which debuts today.
The new comedy also stars Richard Brooks, Dawnn Lewis, Robert Ri’chard, Chrystale Wilson, Caryn Ward Ross and many more.
In what Rowell has called her “passion project,” the show which will use a “soap-within-a-soap” format and chronicle the real-life drama of the actors and crew of the first black-run daytime drama in the soap opera industry.
The show’s description reads, “When greedy studio executives inform self-made business man and showrunner Augustus Barringer (Richard Brooks) that “The Rich and the Ruthless” is getting booted off the sound stages for another talk show after twenty years, Augustus is ready to fight back by any means necessary to stay on the air – even if that means filming out of his sleek Hollywood mansion or moving the company to Jamaica! Meanwhile his unpredictable wife, Kitty Barringer (Victoria Rowell), is not happy about any of it. After recently returning home from her latest stint in rehab, she decides it’s time to claw her way back up the cliff and make her soap diva comeback to her role on the show as Blue Sylla, much to her husband’s chagrin.”
Rowell notoriously played fan-favorite, diva Drucilla “Dru” Winters on The Young and the Restless, who is arguably one of the most prominent and notable black characters in the history of daytime. After criticizing the soap for not having enough black talent on-camera and behind the scenes, she left in 2007.
The six-episode scripted comedy premieres today.
