‘True Detective’ Season 3 Officially A Go At HBO With Mahershala Ali
It’s official: HBO is moving forward with a third season of anthology True Detective.
Nic Pizzolatto will serve as the lone writer on the season save for David Milch, who will direct the fourth episode. (An episode count has not yet been revealed.)
Pizzolatto, who created the series, will serve as showrunner and direct alongside relative newcomer Jeremy Saulnier. Exec producers include Pizzolatto, Saulnier, Scott Stephens, season one stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as well as original director Cary Joji Fukunaga. Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown will also be credited as EPs.
Season three tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
As previously announced, Moonlight Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will topline season three as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.
“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story,” said Pizzolatto, who has an overall deal with HBO.
HBO would not officially confirm that they were moving forward with a third season of True Detective until they found a director who would work with Pizzolatto on the series, which broke out after its freshman run but failed to win over critics with its polarizing second star-studded season.
“Nic has written truly remarkable scripts. With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said.
Rumors have swirled for months about the future of True Detective. News leaked in March that Deadwood creator Milch was teaming with Pizzolatto on season three.
A premiere date has not yet been determined. Bloys said in July that Pizzolatto had almost the entirety of True Detective season three written — “I’ve read five scripts on the new season and I think they’re terrific,” he told reporters at TCA.
The True Detective revival comes as HBO is heading into 2018 likely without its highest-rated show in Game of Thrones (which likely won’t be back until 2019), though Westworld — which wrapped in late 2016 — is set to be back next year. HBO’s drama lineup also consists of David Simon’s The Deuce as well as the forthcoming Sharp Objects adapation.

Ice T Lands On A Special Edition Of ‘Unsung: Hollywood’ On TV One!
TV One presents a special edition of Unsung: Hollywood on rapper and actor Ice-T, one of the most prolific personalities on modern prime time television, airing Sunday, September 3 at 10 p.m. ET. Ice-T is the only entertainer that has been profiled in both an Unsung and Unsung Hollywood episode, focused on his music and acting career respectively.
“I was fortunate because TV One did two Unsung shows on me,” says Ice-T. “They did a great job and I hope people enjoy it and get an understanding of me. If you didn’t know me before, it’s going to bring you up to speed.”
Ice-T, one of the founders of gangster rap, began acting in small film roles before his breakout performance in the 1991 film New Jack City. He continued building his onscreen presence with more realistic, unfiltered film roles in movies such as Ricochet, Trespass and Surviving The Game. In 1995, he crossed over onto the small screen in New York Undercover and in 2000, he landed his most notable television role as Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola in Law And Order: Special Victims Unit. He has been on the series for 17 years, making him the longest-running black actor on television.
“I think this is a brother who found a way to do him and to do it his way,” says Mario Van Peebles, who directed Ice in New Jack City. “Each one of these roles, you can see he infused it in his way. He never played a role that was not something he could bring some of his credibility to.”
Insights are provided from family and friends, including Van Peebles, Ice Cube, Dick Wolf, Vanessa Williams Fab 5 Freddy, Malik Yoba, and Keith Murphy.

Baron Davis Teams Up With Issa Rae For Upcoming Comedic Movie Projects
Former National Basketball Assn. star Baron Davis launched No Label Productions and is developing movie projects with Issa Rae and Amy Pascal.
Davis has teamed with Hollywood veterans Bryan Smiley, who worked at Fox Digital and New Regency, and Zennen Clifton, whose resume includes Yahoo and WME. Their focus is music and urban-driven films across linear and digital platforms aimed at younger audiences.
“We picked the name No Label because we wanted to emphasize that we’re looking for diverse content and we’re nimble,” Davis said.
No Label has teamed with Rae, co-creator and star of HBO’s “Insecure,” on the movie project “Feud.” The story centers on a dysfunctional African-American family going on a road trip to play for a game show in order to win enough money to keep their struggling restaurant afloat.
Rae is producing through her Color Creative banner. She is not attached to star or write.
No Label is partnered with Pascal, the former Sony Pictures chief who segued into a producing deal, on the drama “Ghost,” centered on a young black American male juggling life between his home neighborhood that is stricken with violence and gang activity, and the private school that he attends with affluent people blind to the realities of his home life. The young man’s journey in learning to deal in both worlds takes a toll on his psychological advancement when he meets a mysterious man, Ghost, which changes his life.
Pascal told Variety that she’s known Davis since he was a student at Crossroads School in Santa Monica, Calif.
“I’m doing this because I love Baron Davis and just believe in the guy,” she added. “He’s very committed to making this work.”
Davis retired from the NBA in 2012 and has been active since in producing documentaries including the documentary “The Drew: No Excuse, Just Produce”; the Emmy-nominated documentary “Crips and Bloods: Made in America,” an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival, and “Sole Man,” an installment of “30 for 30” for ESPN.

‘Black Panther’ Star Letitia Wright Added To Cast Of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
The rumor mill has been spinning for a while that Letitia Wright would appear in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, and now the actress has confirmed the news herself!
Back in July, Internet sleuths noticed that Wright’s stunt double in Black Panther is listed in the Avengers credits, suggesting she will reprise her role as Shuri.
Marvel is quite consistent with its castings when it comes to the merging of its superhero character worlds, as will be the case in Avengers: Infinity War, which will see the Avengers join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. Almost every Marvel superhero who’s seen screen time (minus those in the TV series) thus far will be in this movie.
We already know that Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther) will have an integral role in the film, and Danai Gurira (Okoye) will be alongside him. IMDB also reported a few months ago that Winston Duke (M’baku/Man-Ape) would appear in Avengers.
As for Gurira, before Black Panther‘s release in February 2018, she can be seen as Afeni Shakur in the Tupac biopic, All Eyez on Me.
Avengers: Infinity War will follow Black Panther in theaters in May 2018. Intended to be the sequel to 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the movie is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and features an ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Benicio del Toro, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright.
