Empire has been renewed for a fifth season at Fox.
The network announced the news on Wednesday.
This should come as no surprise as the Lee Daniels drama remains the top show at the network and one of the most viewed shows on television, despite viewer erosion over the years.
It has even produced a moderately popular spinoff series, Star.
“Empire is as compelling, emotional, and unpredictable as it ever was. We are so proud of our amazing cast, led by Terrence (Howard) and Taraji (P. Henson), who deliver powerful performances week after week. We’d also like to thank our tremendous creative team … whose inspired storytelling continues to create the unforgettable, jaw-dropping OMG moments that have always been signature to Empire,” said Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn.
Empire revolves around the Lyon family and their media company, Empire Entertainment. The founder, Lucious Lyon is the king of hip-hop, but his company and reign are constantly threatened by his family, including his ex-wife, Cookie Lyon, his sons, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) and Andre (Trai Byers); and a volatile and competitive music industry. Empire also stars Andre Royo as Thurston “Thirsty” Rawlings, Gabourey Sidibe as Becky, Grace Byers as Anika Calhoun, Rumer Willis as Tory Ash, Serayah as Tiana, Ta’Rhonda Jones as Porsha, Terrell Carter as Warren Hall and Xzibit as Shine Johnson
The season five episode order is unknown as of yet.

Kevin Hart’s Former Friend Charged With Trying To Extort Him
A former friend of Kevin Hart was charged Wednesday with trying to extort the actor using a “surreptitiously recorded” video of Hart with a woman in Las Vegas, prosecutors said.
Jonathan Todd Jackson — known as Action Jackson — was charged with attempted extortion and extortion by threatening letter, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Jackson, 41, has appeared in a small role in one of Hart’s movies. Greg Risling, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, told the Los Angeles Times that the two men were once friends. Jackson now faces up to four years in county jail if convicted.
“Jackson is accused of trying to extort an undisclosed amount of money from Hart between Aug. 25 and Aug. 30, 2017,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement on Wednesday. “Jackson allegedly had a videotape of the actor with a woman in Las Vegas and then is accused of trying to sell the recording to numerous celebrity news websites.”
In a tweet that appeared to reference the charges, Hart — who has been promoting his new comedy tour — said he was “hurt” and “at a lost for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment.”

Mind blown…Hurt…at a lost for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment. WOW
Last year, Hart admitted to cheating on his wife, Eniko Parrish. He apologized to her and his children in an Instagram video in September, alluding to the extortion attempt.
“I made a bad error in judgment and put myself in an environment where only bad things can happen, and they did,” he said in the video. “At the end of the day, man, I just simply got to do better. But I’m not going to also allow a person to have financial gain off of my mistakes and in this particular situation, that’s what was attempted. I said I’d rather fess up to my mistakes.”

Bill Cosby Booted From TV Academy’s Hall Of Fame Roster
Bill Cosby’s name and statue have been removed from the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame. Inducted in 1992, his name no longer appears among its official list of honorees online. “All references to Mr. Cosby were removed from the website,” a spokesperson for the Academy stated..
A bust of Cosby that formerly graced the Academy’s outdoor Hall of Fame Plaza won’t be returning to view either. Cosby’s bust, like those of all the other of Hall of Fame recipients, was “removed during construction of the new Saban Media Center,” the spokesperson said, “and at the time it was announced that they would be rotated from storage into the courtyard. We have no plans to place Mr. Cosby’s bust in the courtyard.”
Removing a member of the TV Academy’s Hall of Fame is unprecedented, so it’s unclear what the procedure might be for such a move. Regardless, the scrubbing of Cosby’s name and bust is an indication the group is distancing itself from the actor-comedian.
As for The Cosby Show star’s TV Academy awards, which include four Primetime Emmys its Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, “We have no plans at the present time to rescind his awards,” the spokesperson said.
Once one of the most beloved figures in television, Cosby was convicted last week of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home 14 years ago. More than 50 other women also have accused him of similar crimes, including drugging and sexually assaulting them.
Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein was kicked out of the Academy in November after allegations surfaced that he had sexually assaulted numerous women. Cosby, however, can’t be kicked out because he “was never a member,” the spokesperson said.

Michael Che And Colin Jost To Host The 2018 Emmy Awards
NBC’s renewed love for Saturday Night Live is heading to the Emmys. The network has tapped “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che to host the 2018 telecast.
The network hasn’t had an SNL personality host the Emmys since Eddie Murphy back in 1983, instead relying recently on late-night hosts — like most every other awards show.
“NBC is thrilled to be the home of this year’s Emmy Awards, and with Colin and Michael in the driver’s seat as hosts, along with surprise appearances by other castmembers of Saturday Night Live, I think we are in for one of the funniest awards shows in a long time,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt.
It’s certainly a timely move for the network. SNL continues to enjoy a cultural renaissance thanks to the current political climate. Its 2016-17 season, which tackled the presidential election and its fallout, marked the first time in decades that the show nabbed an Emmy for best variety show. SNL is hardly a stranger to the Emmys though. It is the most nominated TV series of all time.
Added NBC Entertainment alternative and reality group president Paul Telegdy, “We’re proud of our deep comedy roster at NBC, and Michael and Colin — along with the return of king of comedy producer Lorne Michaels — will make this the must-see comedy event of the year.”
NBC is clearly hoping it can goose the Emmys’ ratings with a return to Monday for the Sept. 17 ceremony. The move, which keeps it from interrupting or running against coverage of Sunday Night Football, worked out surprisingly well when the network last did it in 2004. (Instead of September, that one aired in August before the football season began.)
The Television Academy and the broadcast networks are said to still be hammering out details for the next rights deal for the annual telecast. It is expected to return to the four-network rotation when the current contract expires with this 2018 ceremony.
Che and Jost previously received Emmy nominations for their work as co-head writers on SNL. They took over “Weekend Update” in 2014.
“We’re proud to be the first duo hosting the Emmys since Jenna Elfman and David Hyde Pierce,” said Jost and Che in a statement, “and somehow that’s a real fact.”
Ex Employee Of Steve Harvey Says Comedian Is Hiding Financial Docs In Lawsuit
According to gossip website theJasmineBRAND, Steve Harvey is accused of refusing to turn over financial docs to his alleged ex employee. Now the man has headed to court demanding a judge force the comedian to hand them over.
Here’s the backstory: Back in December, Steve Harvey was sued by an alleged former employee
named Vincent Dimmock. Dimmock claimed he was hired by Harvey to raise $20 million for the Steve and Marjorie Foundation and was to be paid 12.5% of everything he brought into the charity. He said he eventually got pledges for $20 million.
He claimed once he delivered the first million dollars to Harvey, the comedian refused to pay him his cut.
Dimmock even claims Harvey’s charity was in bad financial shape due to a series of public relation
incidents involving Harvey mocking Asians and even taking a meeting with President Trump.
Harvey responded to the lawsuit claiming Dimmock was a fraud. He claimed the man contacted him originally about a energy drink endorsement, but then changed his story to him having a billionaire who would invest in Harvey’s charity. The comedian claimed the billionaire turned out not to know Dimmock and said no money came into his charity due to Dimmock.
Here’s the latest: On April 18, Dimmock filed a motion to compel Harvey to turn over records he has so far refused. Dimmock says Harvey’s lawyers said they would turn over the financial records requested, but then decided against it weeks later.
Dimmock says that records he wants include financial information about the charity and Harvey’s bank accounts. He says these financial docs are directly relevant to establishing whether money was transferred between the investor and Harvey and/or his foundation.
He is demanding the court order Harvey to turn over the financial docs ASAP.

Bill Cosby Convicted Of Sexual Assault by Jury- Launches Tirade After Verdict
Bill Cosby has been found guilty of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand in 2004. On Thursday, a Pennsylvania jury returned a verdict after 14 hours of deliberation and held him responsible for rape on all three counts brought by prosecutors.
The development comes in the retrial of Cosby, once the nation’s most popular entertainer with the highest-rated series on television before a downfall triggered when several dozen women came forward to accuse him of being a serial rapist.
After the guilty verdict was read and jurors left the courtroom, Cosby launched an expletive-ridden tirade and called the District Attorney Kevin Steele an “asshole.” As Steele argued to revoke bail, Cosby stood up and shouted, “I’m sick of him!”
Last summer, in the first case, a different jury deadlocked and the court ultimately ruled the matter a mistrial. The underlying facts of the case remain the same. Costand, then 31, who worked in the Temple University athletic department, says Cosby became her mentor, and then one night while she was struggling to make a decision over the direction of her career, she went to Cosby’s residence and was given a glass of wine and pills. Costand recalled her vision becoming blurred, having difficulty speaking and having her legs become rubbery. She was led to lie down on a couch and says that Cosby’s hands were all over her and that he penetrated her.
Constand would later report the incident to law enforcement, who decided not to move forward with a prosecution. Afterwards, she would file a lawsuit, which would settle.
For about a decade afterwards, the allegations against Cosby receded into the background and he enjoyed his position as one of the nation’s most influential African-American ever.
But after another comedian named Hannibal Buress spoke of Cosby as a rapist at a show, it ignited a furor and then about 60 women came forward to share similar stories of being drugged and raped.
The second trial was different from the first in that this jury got a taste of the wide-ranging allegations circling Cosby.
Five women who accused Cosby of drugging and assaulting them were allowed to testify as “prior bad acts” witnesses in an effort for prosecutors to prove the behavior was a pattern. Last time, only one of the women was allowed to take the stand.
Also new was testimony from Constand’s former Temple University colleague who claims the accuser privately admitted to framing Cosby in order to cash in — and a revelation that Cosby paid Constand nearly $3.4 million in 2006 to settle her civil claims.
The comedian did not take the stand during the trial, which saw testimony from more than two dozen witnesses. Cosby attempted to convince the jury he was out of town on the night of the incident, but the jury didn’t buy the story.
Each of the three counts carries a prison term of up to 10 years, although the judge could impose the sentencing time concurrently.
There will likely be an appeal that is grounded upon Cosby’s repeated assertions that his due process rights were violated.
