BET Also Licenses Sketch Comedy Series “The Hospital” from KevOnStage Studios and Fullwell Entertainment’s SpringHill
A Satirical Sketch Comedy, “The Hospital,” Features an Ensemble Cast Of Comedic Actors, Stand-Up Comedians, and Social Media Stars Serving Laughter with ‘Total Medical Negligence’
BET Media Group announced today that the hit BET+ Original Series Churchy will return for its highly anticipated second season on August 21, with all 10 episodes available to stream at once. The breakout comedy made waves in its debut, becoming the most-watched scripted comedy on the platform during its premiere week. In addition, BET has greenlit The Hospital, another original series from the creative mind of comedian Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks.
In Churchy, Fredericks will reprise his role as Pastor Corey Carr Jr., who inherits leadership of Bethlehem Temple, along with a surprise book of debts. He and his wildly unqualified church crew must navigate the daily headaches of ministry life, all while fending off a vengeful rival’s plan to replace the church with a trampoline park.
Returning Churchy series regulars include Mark JP Hood, Lexi Allen, and Anthony Elfonzia, Quin Walters, Tahir Moore, alongside new additions Jasmine Luv, and Nic Few. Guest stars for the second season include Tabitha Brown, Kirk Franklin, Keith Lee, and Tony Baker.
The Hospital, a new satirical sketch comedy series that offers a behind-the-scenes look at what happens when you mix improv comedy with ‘total medical negligence,’ will premiere on BET linear on September 10.
Set inside the ‘most incompetent medical facility in the country,’ and mostly improvised, the four-episode series, The Hospital, is performed by a mix of established and emerging comedic actors, stand-up comedians, and social media stars.
The Hospital stars Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks, Tony Baker, Chris “CP” Powell, D’Lai, Dinora Walcott, Quin Walters, Tahir Moore, Candice Renee, Tamara Jade, Patrick Cloud, Mel Mitchell, Jordan Conley, Loren Lott, and Jazmine Robinson.
BET’s relationship with Fredericks is a key example of its strategy to leverage the creator economy for longer-form content by giving a broader platform to talents originating as social and digital first. As evident with Churchy and The Hospital being placed in the traditional fall TV lineup, Fredericks’ brand of outlandish and relatable humor is resonating with existing audiences and gaining broader reach, which also benefits the network.
Churchy credits include Kevin Fredericks and Melissa Fredericks as executive producers for KevOnStage Studios. Richard A. Washington as supervising producer. Mark J.P. Hood and Korey Washington as producers. Richard A. Washington and David Murphy wrote the series. The series was directed by Jared Leaf.
The Hospital credits include Kevin Fredericks and Richard A. Washington serving as the creators, showrunners, and directors. Kevin Fredericks, Melissa Fredericks, and Richard A. Washington serve as executive producers for KevOnStage Studios. Kevin Fredericks, Richard A. Washington, Brandon Cormell, Roxxy Haze, and Dominic Oliver are writers.
LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Lezlie Wills serve as executive producers for SpringHill, the award-winning studio within Fulwell Entertainment, on both series.
Comedy titan Chris Rock is trading punchlines for poignant drama in his latest cinematic venture—a collaboration with indie powerhouse A24. The untitled film, tentatively referred to as Misty Green, marks Rock’s first project with A24 and his fourth directorial feature, following Top Five (2014), I Think I Love My Wife (2007), and Head of State (2003).
At the heart of the film is Rosalind Eleazar, who plays Misty Green, a gifted actress whose career has been derailed despite her talent. Her fortunes begin to shift when someone from her past—played by Rock himself—offers her a second chance.
Joining the cast are:
While their roles remain under wraps, the ensemble promises a compelling mix of dramatic depth and star power.
The film is currently in production in Los Angeles, with Rock not only directing and starring but also penning the original script. He’s producing alongside Peter Rice and David Worthen Brooks, with Nelson George, Shaum Sengupta, and Miles Alva serving as executive producers.
This project is rumored to be Rock’s most ambitious yet, blending his insider knowledge of Hollywood with a sharp, character-driven narrative. The story explores themes of redemption, legacy, and the complicated dynamics of fame.
Rock’s pivot to drama—especially under the A24 banner—signals a bold evolution in his filmmaking. Known for his incisive social commentary and comedic timing, Rock is now channeling those strengths into a story that’s expected to be both emotionally resonant and culturally relevant.
With production underway and anticipation building, Misty Green could be one of A24’s standout releases in 2026.

Born Trevor George Smith Jr., Busta Rhymes burst onto the scene as part of Leaders of the New School, before launching a solo career that redefined rap’s visual and lyrical boundaries. Known for his rapid-fire delivery, flamboyant style, and genre-bending collaborations, Busta has sold over 20 million albums, earned 12 GRAMMY nominations, and delivered hits like:
His influence spans decades, with accolades including the BET Lifetime Achievement Award (2023) and MTV’s Global Icon Award (2024).
Busta’s talents extend to the big screen, with roles in Higher Learning, Shaft, and The Rugrats Movie. He’s also starring in the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun alongside Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, releasing the same day as his star ceremony.
The ceremony will be hosted by radio legend Big Boy, with guest speakers including:

Comedy legend Eddie Murphy is stepping into one of cinema’s most iconic—and hilariously clumsy—roles: Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the upcoming Pink Panther reboot, slated for release in 2026. The announcement has sparked excitement across Hollywood and among fans of the beloved franchise, which dates back to 1963.
Murphy confirmed the casting during a recent appearance on the Today show, saying, “I’m Inspector Clouseau in the next Pink Panther. Yeah, I’m the new Clouseau.” When asked whether he’d play the famously French detective with a traditional accent, Murphy teased, “Maybe. He has to be French, but he could also be Haitian. I will tell you—he’s Black. He’s Black, for sure.”
This reboot promises a modern twist on the franchise’s signature blend of slapstick and mystery, with Murphy’s version of Clouseau bringing fresh energy and cultural flair to the role.
The role of Clouseau was originally made famous by Peter Sellers, whose bumbling brilliance defined the character across five films. Later, Steve Martin took on the mantle in the 2006 and 2009 reboots. Murphy’s casting marks a bold reimagining, signaling a new era for the franchise.
The film will reportedly blend live-action and animation, honoring the legacy of the animated Pink Panther character while embracing modern filmmaking techniques.
Murphy’s return to broad comedy—following hits like Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and The Pickup—is a welcome move for fans. His ability to embody eccentric characters with heart and humor makes him a natural fit for Clouseau, and the reboot could introduce the franchise to a whole new generation.

As we wrote previously, comedian, writer, and actress Gina Yashere is boldly going where few comics have gone before—into the Star Trek universe. Paramount+ announced that Yashere will appear as a recurring guest star in the upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, playing one of the instructors at the legendary institution. (See Gina as Instructor K’Zanti Vel below)

Best known as the co-creator and star of CBS’s Bob Hearts Abishola, Yashere brings her sharp wit and global perspective to the sci-fi franchise. Her character is described as a Starfleet Academy instructor, tasked with guiding a new generation of cadets through the trials of becoming officers in the Federation.
This marks a major genre shift for Yashere, whose comedy roots include appearances on Def Comedy Jam, The Daily Show, and Live at the Apollo. Her casting adds a fresh comedic edge to the series, which is being pitched as Star Trek’s first live-action YA comedy-drama.
Set in one of the galaxy’s most iconic institutions, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy follows a group of young cadets as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves—and a mysterious new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation.
Yashere joins a cast that includes:
Production began this summer, with the series set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2026.
Yashere’s casting reflects Star Trek’s ongoing commitment to diversity and innovation. Her presence brings not only comedic flair but also a fresh cultural lens to a franchise known for pushing boundaries.
Yashere plays Instructor K’Zanti Vel, a former Starfleet communications officer turned Academy faculty member. Her teaching style? Blunt, brilliant, and brimming with sarcasm — cadets either love her or fear her (often both).
K’Zanti Vel trained on Starbase 47, surviving a rogue ion storm that took out most communications systems — she’s revered for maintaining contact with command using an improvised signal built from shuttle parts. This moment made her a legend in Federation tech circles and led to her Academy appointment.
She’s appeared in several canonical references within the Trek universe:
K’Zanti Vel is especially close to:
And she’s often at odds with Chancellor Gorran Hale (Holly Hunter), clashing over academic protocol — but their mutual respect keeps things professional (mostly).
