WATCH: New ‘House Party’ Remake Debuts First Red Band Trailer!

House Party: cast, plot and everything we know | What to Watch

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have unveiled the red band trailer for their House Party remake, marking the feature directorial debut of veteran music video helmer Calmatic, which Is slated for an exclusive release in theaters on January 13, 2023. (It had previously been believed that the film would bow on HBO Max.)

The original 1990 comedy House Party watched as high schooler Christopher (Christopher “Kid” Reid) snuck out to his friend Peter” (Christopher “Play” Martin) house party, for a wild night of music and fun. The film was a surprise box office hit for New Line, and is credited with helping launch hip-hop into the mainstream. It also launched the career of writer-director Reginald Hudlin, and those of actors Reid, Martin, Tisha Martin-Campbell, Martin Lawrence, A.J. Johnson, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, and Full Force (Paul Anthony, Bowlegged Lou, and B-Fine).

In the remake, aspiring club promoters and best buds Damon (Tosin Cole) and Kevin (Jacob Latimore) are barely keeping things together. Out of money, down on their luck and about to lose the roofs over their heads — and freshly fired from their low-lift jobs as house cleaners — the pair needs a huge windfall to make their problems go away. In a ‘what the hell?’ move, they decide to host the party of the year at an exclusive mansion, the site of their last cleaning job, which just happens to belong to none other than LeBron James. No permission? No problem. What could go wrong? How about a time-traveling DJ, undependable security, a runaway guest list, one borrowed Lamborghini, angry rival promoters, a stolen championship ring, escalating property damage, an angry koala..? But also, one outrageous ride stacked with double-take cameos and timeless throwback tracks, R-rated comedy and two friends worth cheering for… you have to see to believe. After all, a night like this doesn’t come around more than once.

The script for the new House Party film was written by Jamal Olori & Stephen Glover (Atlanta). Karen Obilom, D.C. Young Fly, and Scott Mescudi also star in the pic produced by James and Maverick Carter of The SpringHill Company, which was exec produced by Reginald Hudlin, Warrington Hudlin, Spencer Beighley, and Jamal Henderson.

Today’s House Party trailer features “2 Step,” an all-new original song from Def Jam’s 2 Chainz.

‘House Party’ Reboot Officially Moves From HBO MAX Back To Theaters On MLK Weekend ’23

'House Party'

New Line’s reboot of House Party, which was originally supposed to go to HBO Max, but was given a theatrical release, will now open on Jan. 13, 2023 rather than Dec. 9, 2022.

Bad news: That shifts one wide release out this year, however, two weekends before Christmas was a desert last year with Steven Spielberg’s ultimate Oscar winning West Side Story flopping out of the gate. Good news is that it puts House Party on a prime moviegoing holiday weekend, and next to Blumhouse/Universal’s horror title M3GAN. Pre-pandemic, pop event tentpoles like Jumanji: Next Level and Into the Spiderverse have proved to open and leg out into the New Year. Warner Bros. has the family pic Wonka in the Dec. 15 spot for 2023, prior to Christmas.

Calmatic directs off a screenplay by Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover. Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, and DC Young Fly star. LeBron James and Maverick Carter produce through their SpringHill Company. The company’s Spencer Beighley and Jamal Henderson executive produce along with Reginald Hudlin, Warrington Hudlin and Gretel Twombly.

This leaves the expansion of Focus Features’ Spoiler Alert as the most semi-wide release on that weekend. There’s also limited releases for A24’s The Whale and Searchlight’s Sam Mendes title Empire of Light.

BET is bringing the “Soul Train Awards” back to Las Vegas.  The channel is set to announce on Thursday that the annual event’s 2022 edition will tape on Sunday, November 13, in Sin City. The awards show aims to recognize the year’s top soul, R&B, and hip hop.

“Soul Train Awards” nominees, selected by a voting academy of music industry insiders, performers, and presenters, will be announced at a later date. BET also said it will adhere to local COVID-19 protocols in cooperation with Las Vegas county officials.

Last year’s “Soul Train Awards” were held in New York, at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, co-hosted by Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold returned as co-hosts. Ashanti was given the “Lady of Soul” award, Maxwell was presented with the “Legend” award and Ciara and Russell Wilson and Marley Dias received the “Souls of Justice” award.

BET most recently aired the BET Hip Hop Awards on September 30, combined with “Rap City ’22” and “DJ Cassidy’s Pass the Mic: BET Hip Hop Awards Edition,” which performed solidly for the cabler. Bad Bunny Tops 2022 American Music Awards As Beyoncé, Taylor Swift Among Top Nominees

Bad Bunny, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift

Bad Bunny tops the 2022 American Music Awards nominations, with the Latin artist recognized as this year’s most-nominated artist with eight nods, including his first nod for artist of the year.

In addition to artist of the year, Bad Bunny is also nominated for favorite touring artist, favorite music video, favorite male pop artist, favorite pop album, favorite male Latin artist, favorite Latin album, and favorite Latin song. Should Bad Bunny win in all eight categories, he would tie with Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards in a single year.

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are the most-nominated female artists at this year’s show with six nominations each. The artists will face off in three categories including artist of the year, favorite female pop artist and favorite pop album.

Drake also earned six nods and is up for artist of the year. Meanwhile, Adele, Harry Styles, and The Weeknd earned five nominations each. Should Adele or The Weeknd take home the artist of the year prize, it would be their first win in that category. Should Styles win in the category, it would mark his first win as a solo artist and third overall — the singer won twice while part of One Direction.

Among this year’s first-time nominees are Jack Harlow and Tems with four nominations, Latto with three, and BLACKPINK, Anitta, and Swedish House Mafia with one nomination each.

Elton John is nominated for collaboration of the year and favorite touring artist, making history as the longest-recognized artist in AMA history to-date.

This year’s new categories include favorite K-Pop artist — the first-ever AMA category dedicated to the K-Pop genre — favorite Afrobeats artist, favorite rock song and favorite rock album.

Fan voting is open via VoteAMAs.com and Twitter in all award categories, with voting for favorite K-Pop artist opening on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

The AMA winners are voted entirely by fans. Nominees are based on key fan interactions — as reflected on the Billboard charts — including streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and tour grosses. Measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partner Luminate, in the eligibility period of Sept. 24, 2021, through Sept. 22, 2022.

The show is produced by Dick Clark Productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment. Jesse Collins is showrunner and executive producer. Dionne Harmon, Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, and Larry Klein are also executive producers.

The 2022 AMAs will air live from Microsoft Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. EST/PST on ABC.

Jamie Foxx Denied Entry At Cardi B’s Birthday Party Due To Large Entourage

Jamie Foxx and Cardi B

Jamie Foxx was reportedly denied entry into Cardi B’s birthday celebration in Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, October 12, TMZ reported that the Day Shift star wasn’t allowed into Bardi’s party due the amount of guests he had with him. Foxx pulled up to Poppy Nightclub in a white Rolls-Royce with his crew. Not long after he arrived, the actor-singer was spotted walking back to his car after the doorman turned him and his crew away. The doorman clearly realized he made a mistake because he reportedly ran back to Foxx and granted him access, but it was too late.

“No, we not good,” Foxx said according to TMZ. “Nah n***a, it’s all good! I love you, but it was too much.”

Sources at the party told the outlet that Foxx arrived late to the party and had 10 people in his entourage. The organizers reportedly didn’t know that he was coming and didn’t have a section for him. Once he realized there was no space for him, Foxx left with his crew. He apparently handled the situation well and left without issue. Foxx has not addressed the issue himself.

Inside the cabaret-themed party, Cardi B rocked a lavish, red flapper outfit that resembled a Carnival costume. With Offset by her side, they were greeted by burlesque dancers. The star-studded guest list included her sister Hennessy Carolina, GloRilla, Ice Spice, O.T. Genasis, Chance the Rapper, Tyga, Wale, Tiffany Haddish, DDG, Chloe & Halle Bailey, Shenseea, YG and more.

Trevor Noah Officially Sets ‘Daily Show’ Sign-Off Date

Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah will say farewell as anchor of The Daily Show in December — and while the Comedy Central fixture will return in January, how it will look and who will front it remains up in the air.

Paramount Global announced Wednesday that Noah’s final Daily Show will air on Dec. 8th. The week of shows leading up to his departure will feature a look back at some of the best moments from his seven-year run as the face of the show.

“Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” said Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios president and CEO Chris McCarthy in a statement.

Said Noah, “Chris has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family. I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.” Noah’s Day Zero banner has both a deal and a joint venture with Paramount.

Noah’s Sept. 28th announcement that he would leave Comedy Central’s flagship show came as a shock to execs at Paramount and Comedy Central — including McCarthy, who had lunch with the host a day earlier. The show will remain on the cable channel despite speculation that it would become exclusive to Paramount+, the conglomerate’s big-tent streaming service.

As for the show itself, Comedy Central says a revamped Daily Show will return from a holiday break on Jan. 17 — but offered up no details on a new host or any potential changes to its format. “The Emmy-winning franchise will embark on a reinvention as it has done so successfully in the past,” the announcement of Noah’s end date reads, “returning Tuesday, Jan. 17th with additional details forthcoming.”

Noah is the third host of The Daily Show, following Craig Kilborn and Jon Stewart, whom Noah replaced in 2015. The show’s current correspondents — who will likely be mentioned in conversations about hosting — are Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Dulcé Sloan, Roy Wood Jr., Lewis Black, and Jordan Klepper. Jen Flanz is the showrunner and executive produces with Noah and Jill Katz; Dan Amira is head writer.
