Lupita Nyong’o is headed to the A Quiet Place universe. The actor is in final negotiations to lead Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One, according to reports.
The film is a spinoff of Paramount’s A Quiet Place, which in 2018 became a surprise hit in the hands of director and star John Krasinski. It earned $340.9 million on a $17 million budget. The Krainski-directed A Quiet Place: Part 2 followed in 2021 and earned $297.3 million.
Michael Sarnoski, who became a top director after helming Nicolas Cage’s Pig, will direct, based on an original idea from Krasinski. The story is being kept under wraps for the film, which is due out March 8, 2024.
Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller will produce via Platinum Dunes. Krasinski will produce via his Sunday Night banner with partner Allyson Seeger executive producing. In addition to this spinoff, a third installment of the main A Quiet Place film series is in the works and set for 2025.
Nyong’o is an Oscar winner for 12 Years a Slave and is preparing for the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which debuts Nov. 11th. She has become a go-to for high-profile genre storytelling, also starring in Jordan Peele’s Us and lending her voice to a character in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Nyong’o is repped by CAA.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is making his Marvel.
The actor, who is already known to comic book fans as DC’s Black Manta in the Jason Momoa Aquaman movies and for his memorable role in HBO’s Watchmen, is in talks to star in Wonder Man, Marvel’s latest Disney+ series.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, a writer-producer on comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, are spearheading the series. Guest is head writer of the series, while Cretton will exec produce and possibly direct an episode or more.
Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s oldest characters, first introduced in 1964 in the pages of Avengers No. 9. He was initially a villain and only appeared sporadically in the early Marvel Age, but was reconceived as a hero (and Avenger) in the late 1970s.
In the 1980s, the character really came into his own. Known as Simon Williams, he was a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers and, with a look that included a turtleneck, a red jacket and sunglasses, became a celebrity thanks to his day job as an actor and stuntman.
The character also developed strong ties to classic (and now, thanks to Marvel movies and an Emmy-winning series) globally known characters Vision and Wanda/Scarlet Witch. Stories tied him to the android via ionic energy and brainwaves that implied the two were akin to brothers. Wonder Man even developed feelings for Wanda, after Vision had been dismantled.
The hero has been white in the comics, and the casting of Abdul-Mateen is the latest example of colorblind casting, something Marvel has consistently practiced, from Nicky Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan).
Takes on the character for the Disney+ series were not revealed but there certainly are clues. Even as Marvel searched for its hero for several months, it tapped Ben Kingsley to reprise his scene-stealing role as struggling actor Trevor Slattery, suggesting that the series could offer a look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Hollywood.
(And seeing as Hollywood is in Los Angeles, could LA attorney Jennifer Walters, AKA She-Hulk, pop up? Marvel isn’t one to pass on such an opportunity.)
Abdul-Mateen last appeared opposite Jake Gylenhaal in the Michael Bay action movie Ambulance and appeared in The Matrix Resurrections and Candyman before that.
He is due back as Black Manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Warner Bros.’ DC movie that won’t open until Dec. 25, 2023.
He is repped by WME and M88.

Comedian, Actor, Podcaster, and Producer, Akintunde has launched his “Love & Laughter” hybrid comedy tour combining live tour stops, livestream virtual and Metaverse tour dates. The tour is drawing impressive numbers live in-person and during Metaverse stops in Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Horizon World and Microsoft’s Alt Space. On Wednesday, October 19th, the tour live-streamed from his WF Media Group studio stage via Facebook Live with special guest Corie Johnson, on Saturday, October 22, Akintunde and fellow comedian Jason Earls co-headlined Horizon World’s Soapstone Comedy Club exceeding capacity so much so that several “instances” within the Metaverse had to be created to accommodate the turnout. On the following evening, the two played to a capacity audience for the official launch of Akintunde’s Virtual Comedy Lounge in Alt Space.
“Where as Covid-19 turned the world of live stand up comedy upside down, Virtual Reality comedy offers the live comedy experience in a virtual space. Saturday night was an amazing celebration of the union,” says Jason Earls.

More family-friendly comedy from The Upshaws is coming your way.
The half-hour sitcom has been renewed for Season 3 at Netflix. New episodes will arrive sometime in early 2023.
Created by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes (who also serve as showrunners), the series centers on Bennie Upshaw (played by Mike Epps), a well-meaning mechanic in Indianapolis just trying the best he can to take care of his family. His semi-unconventional family unit includes wife Regina (Kim Fields), firstborn son Bernard (Jermelle Simon), younger daughters Aaliyah and Maya (Khali Spraggins and Journey Christine), and teenage son Kelvin (Diamond Lyons), whom he fathered with another woman named Tasha (Gabrielle Dennis).
A man with a messy past, Bennie works hard to be there for his family and tolerate his sarcastic sister-in-law Lucretia (Sykes) while chasing success.
The renewal news comes after Hicks inked an overall deal with Netflix in 2021 to write, produce and create projects for the streamer. Her writing credits include Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, Sherri, Are We There Yet?, State of Georgia, Instant Mom, Uncle Buck (which starred Mike Epps), Marlon, Insecure, and The L Word: Generation Q.
Hicks also co-wrote several made-for-TV movies, including Jump In, Camp Rock, and Camp Rock 2 for the Disney Channel, as well as VH1’s Drumline 2: A New Beat. Most recently, she co-wrote the Disney+ film Sister Act 3: Kicking the Habit.
