Posted Nov 14, 2012

According to an EXCLUSIVE interview conducted by Blackfilm with comedian Chris Tucker, he is in talks to land in the new film titled The Intouchables. The original film, made in France, has taken home many Awards and is in line to be made as an American feature with many talking about it gaining much success if made in the states also- meaning possible Oscar.

Check out the article from Blackfilm:

While discussing his return to the big screen in David O. Russell‘s latest film, ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ actor Chris Tuckerexclusively told Blackfilm.com that he’s been in talks to star in The Weinstein Company’s English-language remake of the French film‘The Intouchables.’

Have you seen ‘The Intouchables?’ Would you consider doing the remake?

Chris Tucker: I’ve seen it and yes, I have been talking with them (producers) about doing it. I hope something will come out of it because I really like the movie and they are in the process of getting it together. So there’s a possibility that it might happen.

Earlier this year, Variety had reported that Paul Fieg (Bridesmaids) was in talks to direct the film, with Academy Award winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) also in talks to play one of the co-leads.

Directed Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, and based on a true story, THE INTOUCHABLES depicts an unlikely camaraderie rooted in honesty and humor between a handicap millionaire (played by Francois Cluzet) and his street smart ex-con caretaker (played by Omar Sy), who, on the surface, would seem to have nothing in common. The film was nominated for a total of nine 2012 César Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars, including Best Picture, and winning Best Actor for breakout star Omar Sy, and won the Grand Prize at the 2011 Tokyo International Film Festival. It’s the third highest gross of all time in France and is the highest grossing French film in Germany ever.

Released in the United Stated this past May, ‘The Intouchables’ is currently is this year’s highest grossing foreign language film in North America.

With ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ receiving glowing reviews from those who have seen the film, the timing is right for Tucker to get back in the spotlight. Having taken a long break from acting since he last appeared in ‘Rush Hour 3,’ Tucker’s role in SLP is more subdued than expected and brightens the scene when he appears. Although it’s a small role, it’s a nice transition for Tucker to go from doing straight comedies to entering the drama department and a role in ‘The Intouchables’ would be the perfect fit for the gifted comedian.
