The Chris Rock-directed dramedy, Misty Green, from A24 will hit Netflix on Nov. 9.
While A24’s pay-one output deal with HBO Max, Rock’s first directorial in 12 years lands at Netflix given his long-running relationship with the streamer on its comedy specials.
Misty Green, which made its world premiere at TIFF, is currently playing in limited theaters nationwide.
Rock wrote, directed, and produced the film, and stars alongside Rosalind Eleazar, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace. The pic follows Eleazar as Misty, a once-promising actress who is fighting for a second act.
The actress’ work has earned a Toronto International Film Festival Tribute Award, the Hamptons Film Festival Breakthrough Performer Award, the Mill Valley Film Festival Spotlight Award, and the Middleburg Film Festival Breakthrough Actor Award. She was also named one of Newport Film Festival x Variety’s “10 Actors to Watch” and will receive a Breakthrough Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival later this month.
Deadline Chief Film Critic Pete Hammond praised Eleazar in Misty Green, writing that the movie is “all lifted way up high by Eleazar, who makes this all worth the ticket. She’s mesmerizing in one of the best performances by an actress this year. You believe her; you may even know her.”
Misty Green is produced by incoming Netflix Content Boss Peter Rice, Rock, David Worthen Brooks, and Victoria Thomas.
