Chris Rock To Tour Early Next Year "Maybe with Dave Chappelle, Maybe Not"!

Posted Jul 22, 2013

Chris Rock is getting ready to go back on tour. Rock revealed the news in an excellent, in-depth interview with Aisha Tyler on her podcast Girl on Guy that dropped yesterday. Rock, who performed a couple gigs with Dave Chappelle at New York’s Comedy Cellar in February, has been talking about doing a joint tour with Chappelle for a while now. On the podcast, Rock says, “The tour will happen. Maybe with Chappelle, maybe not. Who knows? We’ve been talking.”

He says his tour is set for early 2014 and admits, “I haven’t done standup in about four years.” While Rock says he hasn’t done standup in four years, he’s likely just referring to doing big public standup shows like he does on tour, as he still drops into the Comedy Cellar for unannounced performances, like the one with Chappelle, occasionally.

Rock attributes his reduced standup schedule to him wanting to spend more time with his children. “I like taking a break,” he says. “My kids are young. They’re only gonna be young once.” He adds, “As long as you’re trying to be funny, you’ll be okay … When you step away from wanting to be funny, that’s when you have a problem.” This will be his first tour since the one he did for his 2008 HBO special Kill the Messenger. Rock also revealed that he has agreed to act in an unspecified play in spring of 2015, his first since making his Broadway debut with The Motherfucker with the Hat in 2011.
