Posted Jan 6, 2016

Actress Gabrielle Union interrupted BET president of programming Stephen Hill’s opening remarks at the network’s TCA session this morning to announce that Being Mary Jane is renewed for a fourth season and will begin shooting later this summer in Atlanta.

Being Mary Jane, created and executive produced by The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and executive produced and directed by Salim Akil, follows the sometimes disastrous personal and professional life of news anchor Mary Jane Paul (Union). Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, Lisa Vidal, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, Latarsha Rose and Stephen Bishop co-star.

Back in August, it was announced that husband and wife team the Akils were moving to Warner Bros. TV in May for a three-year deal. At that time, Mara will become an executive consultant on Being Mary Jane. Season 4 will be the first one for Being Mary Jane without Mara as showrunner. At this point in time, a new showrunner has not been announced per BET insiders.

Before departing the stage Union quipped to the press corps, “I appreciate your support and my accountant thanks you.”
