‘Bad Boys 3’ Finally Moving Forward With New Writer/Director!

Posted Jun 9, 2015

Sony is eyeing Joe Carnahan as a potential director for Will Smith’s “Bad Boys 3.”

The studio is in early talks with Carnahan to do a re-write on a “Bad Boys 3″ script by “Safe House” writer David Guggenheim with an eye to directing.

Smith has been filming Warner Bros.’ “Suicide Squad” portraying the Floyd Lawton / Deadshot character.

Smith starred with Martin Lawrence in 1995’s “Bad Boys” and 2003’s “Bad Boys II” with Michael Bay directing both films. Both of the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced films were quite successful with the first grossing over $140 million worldwide and the second taking in over $270 million.

Carnahan closed a deal in March to direct “Motorcade” for DreamWorks. Carnahan most recently directed “Stretch,” starring Patrick Wilson, Ed Helms and Chris Pine, and has also been busy on the TV front, exec producing the NBC dramas “Blacklist” and “State of Affairs.”

Other past credits include “The Grey,” “The A-Team” and “Smokin Aces.” Carnahan is repped by CAA.

The news was first reported by Deadline.com.
