Today we heard some more news about one of Byron Allen’s two new shows. As you probably know by now, Allen has released the news that he is launching two new shows titled Mr. Box Office and The First Family, both having 104 episode orders launching in prime time beginning in the fall.
The First Family is described as the story of an African American family in the White House, and Mr. Box Office is about a big movie star sentenced to community service who teaches at the toughest high school in America.
As reported, there have been no announcements about creative talent behind the camera or cast for Mr. Box Office, but we heard that Bill Bellamy and Vivica Fox were both attached to star. When we spoke to Entertainment Studios directly, that was neither confirmed nor denied. So we will have to continue to dig for that story.
Today, we tried to follow up on another story which we heard that comedians Tony Roberts and JB Smoove (of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm fame) have also both landed in the show Mr. Box Office, but again, it was neither confirmed or denied. We heard that they will play the best friend of the title character.
We do know that the First Family is set to star Marla Gibbs, (The Jefferson’s), Gladys Knight Jackee Harry (Sister, Sister), Michael D. Roberts (Seinfeld), John Witherspoon (the Friday franchise), Paul Rodriguez, Kelita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) and veteran actor Christopher B. Duncan, who plays the president of the United States.
As this story develops, we will keep you in the loop!
