ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary’ Scores Another Round of Emmy Nominations In 2025

Posted Jul 15, 2025

ABC’s hit mockumentary-style sitcom Abbott Elementary continues its winning streak, earning multiple nominations at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, solidifying its place as one of television’s most beloved comedies.

Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, the series received its fourth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, joining a competitive lineup that includes Hacks, The Bear, and Only Murders in the Building. Though the show has yet to clinch a win in this category, its consistent presence signals enduring acclaim from both audiences and critics.

Brunson herself is once again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, following her historic win in 2023, when she became the first Black woman to take home the award since 1981. Her portrayal of Janine Teagues—a passionate and slightly awkward second-grade teacher navigating the challenges of a Philadelphia public school—has become iconic.

Supporting cast members Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James also earned nods for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Ralph, who won in 2022, and James, now on her fourth nomination, continue to be recognized for their standout performances as Barbara Howard and Ava Coleman, respectively.

The show’s writing team, led by Brunson, is also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, marking another milestone for Black women in television. Brunson now ties the record for most writing Emmy nominations by a Black woman for a single series.

With the ceremony set for September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Abbott Elementary fans are hoping this year brings the show its first win for Outstanding Comedy Series. Whether or not it takes home the top prize, the nominations alone affirm the show’s cultural impact and its role in reshaping the landscape of network comedy.
