TV History Made: 'The Steve Harvey Show' Celebrates 17 Years Since It's Launch!

Comedy News

Another moment in comedy history slipped past us last week; we discovered that August 25th was the 17 year anniversary of one of the best comedic sitcoms to ever hit the airwaves; The Steve Harvey Show!

That’s right, the WB sitcom aired for six seasons from August 25, 1996 to February 17, 2002 and was created by Winifred Hervey and directed by Stan Lathan of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam fame. The show starred Steve Harvey as Steve Hightower as a has-been 1970’s funk legend who became a music teacher/Vice-principal at Booker T. Washington High School on Chicago’s West Side. Budget cutbacks meant Steve also had to teach drama and art, much to his surprise. The show also starred Cedric The Entertainer as Cedric Robinson who was the coach at the high school, and Steve’s long-time best friend. We discovered quickly that the two Original Kings Of Comedy were on their way to super stardom right then and there.

We also have to mention the other shows stars, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Merlin Santana, William Lee Scott, and Terri J. Vaughn just to name a few and this show was the beginning of many great things for many stars of this show.

Today, Steve Harvey is now on the radio (The Steve Harvey Morning Show), on a game show (Family Feud), has several other film projects coming such as Think Like A Man 2 and more.

Cedric The Entertainer has a new game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, a hit sitcom in The Soul Man and many films under his belt and several on the horizon.

They sure don’t make shows like this anymore, do they?
