South African Comic Trevor Noah Joins Hasan Minhaj On 'The Daily Show'!

Posted Oct 10, 2014

Trevor And BlakeFollowing Michael Che‘s departure in September, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart is bulking up its team with the addition of two comedians.

Hasan Minhaj and Trevor Noah have been tapped to join the late-night satirical news program, the cable network announced Friday. Minhaj will take over for Che as a correspondent starting in November, while Noah will begin in December as a contributor.

Featured as a New Face at this year’s Just for Laughs Festival, Minhaj was recently selected by the Sundance Institute to develop his solo show and feature film, Paint the Town, with the New Frontier Story Lab. He hosted the Stand Up Planet documentary special for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and has a digital series, The Truth With Hasan Minhaj. Minhaj previously performed on NBC’s Last Call With Carson Daly, and has appeared in Netflix’s Arrested Development, HBO’s Getting On and Comedy Central’s @midnight.

Noah, a finalist for Personality of the Year at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards and the cover star of the current South African GQ, has hosted numerous shows, including the South African Comedy Festival and two seasons of his own late-night talker. Noah, boasting 1.6 million Twitter followers, made his U.S. TV debut performing on NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and has also appeared onCBS’ Late Show With David Letterman — becoming the first South African comedian to appear on either show. His Showtime special, Trevor Noah: African American, premiered in 2013, and he was the subject of the documentary You Laugh But It’s True, which charted his career in post-apartheid South Africa.

The duo join a Daily Show team that includes Jason Jones, Samantha Bee, Aasif Mandvi, Jordan Klepper, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Kristen Schaal and Larry Wilmore, who will exit at the end of the year to launch The Minority Report in The Colbert Report‘s slot starting in January.

Minhaj is repped by Principato Young and Hansen Jacobson. Noah is repped by LEG, CAA and Morris Yorn.

News of the new Daily Show members comes weeks after Che departed the program for a return to Saturday Night Live after just three months. Stewart has seen several of his proteges, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver among them, announce exits from Comedy Central over the past year. In April, Colbert was announced as the successor to David Letterman‘s Late Show, while Oliver launched his new HBO talk show Last Week Tonight that same month.
