Posted May 18, 2016

The stand-up star, a regular on Netflix with comedy specials, will receive the Sir Peter Ustinov comedy award.

Global stand-up star Russell Peters is to receive the top comedy award at the upcoming Banff World Media Festival.

The Last Comic Standing judge, who had a cameo in Jon Favreau’s Chef and lent his voice to Disney’s The Jungle Book, will receive the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award on June 14. The Canadian-born comic and actor will also deliver a master class at the Canadian Rockies industry retreat.

Peters, who is in the middle of his Almost Famous World Tour, in 2008 started self-financing and producing his own comedy specials and DVDs, including Notorious for Netflix. He currently has over seven hours of content on Netflix.

Peters, who is repped by WME, will also appear in an upcoming episode of Lip Sync Battle on Spike TV. And he and Faizon Love are set to co-star in the stoner buddy comedy Ripped, to be directed by Brad Epstein.

Banff’s 37th edition will also see HBO saluted as the company of distinction, with top network execs and stars led by CEO Richard Plepler in town to deliver keynote addresses and master classes. The Banff World Media Festival is to run from June 12 to 16, 2016.
