Jermaine Fowler is Developing a Semi-Autobiographical Comedy for ABC!

Posted Sep 4, 2014

Jermaine Fowler of MTV2’s “Guy Code” has inked a development deal with ABC to create a semi-autobiographical comedy series based on his life.

Fowler, who began making a name for himself as a stand-up comedian, at 24-years-old, has performed in numerous festivals such as Just for Laughs: Montreal, where he was featured as a New Face, and the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival where he took home the prestigious Rooftop Comedy Silver Nail Award. He has also performed as a finalist in NBC’s Stand Up for Diversity, toured with Comedy Central and was chosen for ABC’s 10th Annual Diversity Showcase.

The untitled comedy project would star Fowler as a college dropout who winds up living with his estranged grandmother, who happens to be a former DC cop, whose new mission is to get her grandson off the couch and out into the world.

Fowler will executive produce the series alongside Avi Gilbert and Michael Rotenberg of 3 Arts.

Fowler is just one of a handful of black content creators ABC has attracted, including the existing Shonda Rhimes, as well as Kenya Barris, Kevin Hart, Keenan Ivory Wayans and others.
