NBC Orders New Comedy Pilot From Jerrod Carmichael!

Posted Nov 3, 2014

JerrodFollowing months of retooling, NBC is moving forward with its Jerrod Carmichael comedy.

The network has handed out a pilot order to the untitled comedy based on the comedian’s stand-up, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From Universal Television, the multicamera comedy is inspired by Carmichael’s comedy as well as his relationships with his girlfriend and family.

Nick Stoller (Undeclared, Sex Tape) and Carmichael will pen the script and exec produce the comedy alongside Ravi Nandan. Carmichael will star. The project reunites Stoller with Carmichael after the duo worked together on feature Neighbors.

The comedy starring the L.A.-based comedian was originally developed last pilot season and narrowly missed the cut in May. In the months since, Carmichael has seen his star rise after an HBO stand-up special directed by Spike Lee and role in Neighbors.

The Carmichael comedy was originally shot as a low-budget presentation last year and, like ABC’s Cristela Alonzo comedy, had a lot of support internally.

This marks NBC’s first official pilot order for the 2015-16 pilot season. The new pilot will film in December in Los Angeles.
