Posted Jan 22, 2013

Joe LouisToday we discovered the news that the biographic film of Joe Louis is in development for a theatrical release titled The Brown Bomber! We also discovered that the film will be Executive Produced by Serge Rudnunsky and Gerald I Wolff and is expected to be cast shortly.

No word on who the cast will potentially be yet, but we will have news on that shortly.

If you are not familiar with who Louis was, he was  a professional boxer for many years and he ended up becoming the   World Heavyweight Champion. His reign in the boxing world lasted from 1937 to 1949 and many people in the sporting circles believe he was the best Heavyweight fighter of all time, and his nickname was The Brown Bomber, hence the title of the film.

Since Louis was one of the key individuals who helped elevate boxing by establishing a reputation as an honest, hardworking fighter at a time when the sport was dominated by gambling interests, it is believed that the upcoming feature will be about all of the mafia ties in the sport and how they tried to lure him in their world.

All in all, Louis’ reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 27 championship fights, 26 championship fights during his reign; the 27th, against Ezzard Charles, was a challenge to Charles’ Heavyweight title and so is not included in Louis’ reign. Joe was victorious in 25 successful title defenses, a record for the heavyweight division.
