A 'House Party' Remake Filming Now?

Posted Oct 14, 2012

We just discovered over the weekend that it seems Warner Brothers studios is in the midst of remaking the cult classic House Party, which was a 1990 urban comedy film that starred Kid N Play. What’s interesting to us is that the film was originally released by New Line Cinemas, so we are checking to see what happened there. We do know that the filming is happening now, and completely on the “hush-hush”.

Anyway, the film also starred tons of musicians at the time; singers like the group Full Force (Paul Anthony, Bow-Legged Lou, and B-Fine), Daryl “Chill” Mitchell and Gene “Groove” Allen (of Groove B. Chill),  and the late great comedian Robin Harris (who died of a heart attack nine days after House Party was released).

The film also starred the then unknowns Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, A.J. Johnson, Kelly Jo Minter, along with veteran comedic actor John Witherspoon, and had a cameo by funk musician George Clinton.

The film was written and directed by Reginald Hudlin, based on his award-winning Harvard University student film and grossed $26,385,627 in its run at the box office with its widest release being 700 theaters.

We have heard that the film could be developing into an old school vs. new school party, and could have several cameos in it. But, as we stated, there is no word just yet.

As soon as we find out more details this week, we will let you know!
